I can see the logic behind this Digital ID if you want to work idea but the devil will be in the detail and I'm far from convinced they can get those right.

Just round up every Deliveroo, Uber Eats rider and deport all the illegals found and fine the companies big time.
Well, whatever, nevermind

More than a million people signed the petition against them in less than 24 hours.

How exactly is it going to help tackle illegal working? As things stand you need to provide photo ID or a long form birth certificate when you start a new job to prove you have the right to work. Digital ID isn't going to add anything to that.  noooo:

All the things they ask for now are easily forged and if the employer is in on the illegality they can not look too hard yet say they checked and then not get fined and so it goes on.

That's going to be one of the key points on this.  Can they make it secure and frankly this will be a big challenge if every employer  (incl the one man and his dog companies) are able to have online access.

When I had friends in alternative careers …I once met a guy who had a whole briefcase FULL of credit cards ..ranging from …already reported lost …up to un activated etc …

Also in those days .no one really checked provisional driving licences …so people applied from different addresses…in different names etc …it was surprisingly easy …

And I was once offered 2000 blank log books actually from DVLA complete with watermark …!…!…

It just ain't gonna happen is it...?  noooo:

Petition is over 2 million already and there is opposition from all sides.  Thumbs:

Plus the country is broke and rapidly getting broker - where are they going to rustle up the billions that it would undoubtedly cost? Shrugs:

And lastly, it simply won't do what they claim it will do (this time, there were different claims the last time, terrorism, sense of being, etc.), so meh... ::)

Honestly? I don't think they have a snowballs chance in hell of making it secure. If this goes live then they are setting a challenge to every black hat hacker on the planet and given the governmental tendency to hand out contracts to either the lowest paying bidder or friends. Interestingly the tech and data circles I've kept in loose contact with since my dialer manager days seem to be mentioning the same 2 companies. Palantir for the back end makes a degree of sense although the civil liberties and privacy groups may be frothing at the mouth after Fortune broke the story about them being funded by Anduril.
