Repair or replace? Poll
« on: June 20, 2019, 06:22:08 AM »
My dishwasher is dead. Contacted a local company who charge £25 to come out and see what the fault is and then, of course, parts and labout and VAT to repair it.

I can get a brand new on in the sale for £149  rubschin: rubschin:

Don't take this the wrong way Nick but have you given it a proper clean recently? The only reason I'm asking is that when I worked at BHF we used to get a fairly constant stream of broken dishwashers by people who thought they were pulling a fast one and 9 times out of 10 it was just a problem of the previous owner not running the cleaning solution through the machine so the pipes would end up getting blocked. A little bit of work and some Mr Muscle drain/pipe cleaner and we were able to get them working again

Have you tried changing the fuse? Before you get narky with me I'm just running down the knackered appliance check list we used to have based on what you are telling us.

Buy a new one then but if you are going to get one don't  just get the cheapest.

Your track record with all things mechanical or electrical would  seem to suggest a better investment may be required.

However how much washing up do you produce ?? You are in Brighton most of the year and then eat from the stew pot the remaining time  or have lunch out ( with Nod)  rubschin:

Strangely that's usually a good sign.*

How old is it?  if over 5 years and not a Miele than replace, otherwise risk the repair route.  No certainties though

* there's an olde wisdome with electronics engineers (which by profession is wot I was).  When someone comes to you with a broken radio, music player, computer etc with that "can you repair it?" look you ask them does it make any noise at all.  if they say "yes" you say "bin it", just way too difficult.

Well, whatever, nevermind
