The EHRC is calling for changes to the law in order to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14, despite the fact that there is an epidemic of knife crime in the country and a freedom of information request revealed that over the last 4 years over 1745 weapons including (knuckledusters, kitchen knives, butterfly knives and machetes) have been found by the police on both secondary and PRIMARY school premises. The true number is probably far higher as the Met, West Midlands and Greater Manchester forces have refused to release the information claiming expense as a reason.
Plus let's be honest here, John Venables and Robert Thompson have shown us that there isn't a minimum age for evil. If anything, by all accounts, Venables has got worse as he as grown older. If you want to make sure that someone caught for a crime at a young age doesn't re-offend then make sure they understand that actions have consequences while they are still young enough for such an intervention to have a chance of working.
What the hell happened to the concept of the rights of the victim and the general public being important?
