University IT IDIOCY

Was informed last week that Wednesday (last Wednesday) was the day to apply for accommodation at Hull University. 15000 applicants were ordered to select their preferred accommodation and then to press the SEND button at 7.00 a.m. to guarantee their first choice.

This seemed insane to me and I suggested the whole site would crash.

I was informed that I was negative and pessimistic and not to be so stupid.

Just called to check on the outcome.

Apparently the whole site crashed for 24 hours  whistle: facepalm:

Meanwhile the pesky phone remains unfound  Banghead Banghead Banghead

And the Boy has raised his Maths mock  U grade to an E grade (he needs a B  facepalm: )

The Brat has filled her forms in and returned. She wants to go to Brighton but has now decided she may not want to go to uni at all. Think that is cos she has can't be arsed to do any work for her exams but also she says she doesn't want to get into debt  rubschin:

But looking at uni halls - average £160 per week . Going up to £190 pw where food is provided. The rooms are box rooms have to pay for wifi  and TV licence on top in addition to £9k fees a year  eeek:

We shall wait and see - is it wrong to hope she doesn't get the grades and bankrupt me  redface:

[serious] the whole debt thing is a pile of shite. I actually know the bloke who introduced student loans into this country and he says the Govt have totally fucked it up. It is NOT a problem. The only real expense is the living costs [serious]

When I were a lad you got a pathetic grant and you lived 3 years in poverty at Uni with loads of equally poor and hungry students so it didn't seem so bad.  When you left you might be thin and not got a great wardrobe but you weren't £thousands in debt and you seriously knew the real value of money.  Knowledge that served you well for life.

If someone had given me a loan I'd have spent it all on wine, women and worserer pursuits and wasted the rest and probably still be in debt now.

And you try telling that to the youth of today
