You don't want to know what the text says.  eeek:

It's a woodblock print called The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife by an 18th Century artist called Hokusai,  if memory serves it was part of a book or a collection released at the time. He loved nature and was a strong believer in the shinto ideal of humanity and nature belonging together in unison although there has never been a consensus on whether he painted the piece just to make money or for a deeper reason. There have been a number of copies inspired by it over the years including one by Pablo Picasso.

Before anyone asks, we had some Japanese prints come into the store a while back and I ended up having to research what they were and how much they could be sold on for.

On the other hand, I'm almost afraid to ask how long Miss D was wandering around the exhibition for.  scared:

Try looking up H.P. Lovecraft, the physical description of Cthulhu was based upon a the idea of a humanoid octopus/squid. He was male but I can't remember if Kthanid was male or female.

Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos kept me sane years ago when I worked at a hotel owned by a bunch of evangelical Christians who would give jobs to anyone in their congregation who couldn't find work anywhere else. Unfortunately for me two of them decided that I would be an excellent candidate for being 'converted to the light'. I've got nothing against religion per se but I tend to get a tad narked off when someone decides that its their way or hell and damnation so I made them a deal, they could tell me about their religion if I could reciprocate, 10 minutes of me blagging my way through the mythos and the dozy buggers wouldn't even go in the same room as me.  whistle:
