Bonkers expensive but were effing brilliant for those long flights.

We've got Bose noise cancelling... QuietComfort 3....

But Emirates include them on the flight...

Here's a tip (you've prolly already sussed):  if you have a dashcam take it with you (+ loads of memory cards)   Helps if some local runs into you and we just had fun fast forwarding of us driving over the bridge, round Sydney, Centennial Park etc etc.  Most of the coverage is just boring highway and town driving but then you get those moments that are brilliant

If only I'd taken loads of cards and changed them often.  All the Blue Mountain driving was written over

The Sony has optical image stabilisation which works at 4K and roduces impressive results... but the GoPro is waterproof and as you say, substantially cheaper (although I've spunked moar cash away on a second battery and a zillionteen mounts...

Good call on the dash cam, I was going to use the GoPro but it would be simpler to have one on the screen all the time - mine has a 32Gbyte card in it and lasts ages...

I'm also taking a 1Tb USB disc with me that I can dump photos and videos onto...

32 Gbyte lasts just under 6 hours of HD recording in mine.  I was stunned how good the results were.

But micro SD cards are cheap as chips now

J is happily marrried but is nuts. She got it into her head to enter Robot Wars so built a monstrosity that scared the living shite out of me. The weapons she put into the bloody thing would have had DARPA drooling. Fortunately none of them were allowed under the rules although it would have been interesting seeing the house robots go head to head with the rocket propelled harpoon.
