One of my all time favourites, Austin 1300GT.Certainly in the top 5.  cloud9:

Teal Blue and mine was an absolute minter 'til some absolute dickhead ran into the back of it. cussing:
Got it repaired, but it was never the same after that. Back door kept catching on the apeture

My mate had one ......good times......

My mate had the Vanden Plas version...

He left the road on a roundabout one night (pissed) and it had a huge dent in the side and the sills - it was alike a banana...  noooo:

we went all over the place in it tho - I presume he couldn't have got a MoT for it...  lol:

Polo mk1 estate type thing. Can't remember it's exact name now, but the version was affectionately called the 'Pygmy's Hearse' back then. lol:

Bought this one at the car auction for an amazingly low price.
Thought I'd scooped on a real bargain.

Used it for a few weeks and it was very good.

Eventually sold it and made several hundred snotters on it. cloud9:

Couple of months later the rozzers came knocking on my door asking me did I know it had been a write off prior to me selling it? eeek:
Don't know how or why thay got involved tbh, but never heard anymore about it.

1st car I had on hp.
£500 bought me this 2 year old Mk2 Cortina in this colour, AND it had a black vinyl roof too!! eeek:

Heard a noise outside me flat one night, and saw 4 scumbags getting into it...presumably unlocked it witha rusty knife. ::)

Raced down the stairs holering abuse and  waving a pair of milk bottles at them, and they all ran off in different directions. lol:

Rust ey?

Remember it well. Main reason for scrapping a car back then.

Now?

No rust, just far too expensive electrical problems to repair that far outweigh the value of most cars after a mere 6 -8 years of use.
Criminal the stuff you see in the breakers yards now.

Had to get a new tailgate for a Xantia four years ago, after my Jimny ran into the back of the one I had at the time, DON'T ask. redface:

Fouund one that appeared to be in pretty good nick tbh..
Asked the scrappie why it had been dragged in.

I t waasn't dragged in at all. Geezer drove it in and decided to part with it simply because it was going to cost over £800 to replace a leaky heater matrix. eeek:

Yes, hard to believe there will be any 'Classic' cars in the future - apart from Aston Martins and such like... far too complex for the average man in the street to repair and restore....

Future is on the older metal for its sheer desirabilty and fixabilty. cloud9:

Values all heading 'northwards' I reckon.

My first car was also an Austin 1300 - great car, but rust in the rear subframe eventually killed it. It was superb in the snow!

Then a white Mini 1275GT, bored out to 1340ish, LCB exhaust and annoyed neighbours. A bit of "enthusiastic driving" and a big tree in the road outside Windsor Davies' house killed that one  cry:

Then a 1980 Dolomite Sprint with twin Webber 45s and a Janspeed exhaust - at trackdays I would demolish Escort Turbos.

After that I had motorbikes but also inherited my dad's 1980 standard Dolomite Sprint in Brooklands Green. Really, really wished I'd kept that as it was totally original (apart from the rear spoiler) and they are fetching decent money these days.

I eventually got fed up getting drenched going to and from work on motorbikes (I had my first GSXR750 at the time) and bought a 1990 Rover Vitesse for £150. It died 3 years later (cambelt went) but it cost me a pittance in the interim.

And then I bought my big, blue Lexus GS300 which I have to this day. 8 years and all it has cost me is some tyres, brake pads and one rear brake light lamp. And the battery is STILL going (just) despite Snoopy's warning a couple of years ago  ;D
