Spam
« on: January 31, 2013, 10:04:17 AM »
Since I've been doing online general car insurance and  comaparison sites searching, I've been absolutely bombarded with loads of utter spam crap, ranging from ppi claims, accident claims, house and life insurance, BINGO???, motgage advice sites, car guaranteed loan sites at a very reasonable 50% apr, eeek: etc etc.
All going into my junk file, but having to unsubscribe and block everyone of them a couple of times a day, and it's becoming very tiresome.

Any quicker way of getting rid of these parasites/

Could have sworn I clicked the box saying NO, I DON'T want to be contacted by other various companies that I might be interested in. Banghead

Don't bother unsubscribing - that just lets the spammer (who may never have received anything from you) know that it is a real address...

Just let them into your junk folder and empty it out every now and again.

Tell you what else I keep getting.
Emails from some constantly changing addy's regarding my 'dodgy neighbours, local paedo's and do you know what your wife's been up too....click here to find out more....type shite, but it's ALWAYS addressed to an (only one) email address not a million letters away from mine.

How's it get through when my addy isn't on it? confused:

Been blocking them....about 3 a week...for over 12 months now, but they obviously have access to a squillion sending addy's, utter bastards. cussing:

I discovered that many of these "Companies" offering so called legal advice (Miss-sold PPI, Had an Accident No Win No Claim etc) are in fact owned by the insurance companies so technically they haven't passed your details on to anyone except themselves. Getting rid of them is difficult once they have an email address for you.
The whole world of insurance is one big con as the majority of companies belong to one of four larger groups.
Then there is a company like Churchill (who have various trading names) who claim not to belong to any comparison sites ... In other words they refuse to pay to be included on such sites.

I know I have said it before but one of the better and fairer insurers are L&V. Well worth contacting them directly. Either that or use a specialist broker. An independent broker will get commission from the insurers but they can and will search the whole market and can also access insurance directly from Lloyds Underwriters. Once you find one you'd do well to stick with them every year. The more policies you have with them the more discounts you can get. L&V also offer insurance for Cars, Homes (Blds and contents), Pets and just about anything you may wish to insure. Again they give discounts if you have more than one sort of policy with them. I have been using L&V for years. Yes I do check for quotes each year from other companies but L&V always come out as the cheapest.
That said I do get an additional discount of 10% due to being a member of the Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA). Insurances for our cars is done through L&V who also give us 75% No Claims discount .... So just by using them for 2 cars, the dog and the house I get 90% discount on the cars. (75% No Claims+10% CSMA member + 5% for having several policies with them)
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Been in touch with the most of the independents now, but it's still cost prohibitive unfortunately.

No, the only way through this  now is through Footman James who've managed to secure a one of deal with the Royal Sun Alliance and the Moggy Minors owner club on a Moggy, and ONLY a Moggy, for youngsters.

Meanwhile, the spam keeps on arriving. ::)

I second Snoopy's recommendation of LV. I got my annuities through them, easily 10% better offer than any other. I changed my car insurance to them last year, cheaper and better and will change my house insurance over on the next renewal.

Do you build up a "no-claims" bonus with it? When I insured my old Rover on a classic policy, although cheap it didn't build up a no-claims bonus due to the milage restriction.

No you don't, but it does get cheaper year by year (age basis) providing there's been no claims, and once you've passed 25 it can become almost obscenely cheap, i.e, under £100.
