Lardy cake ...

 Drool: Drool: Drool:

 Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool:

But it MUST be eaten on the day it is made.  Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool:  Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool:

God, this is all too much ... I'm going to have to try and make one this weekend ...

Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool: Drool:

I have never been able to recreate that "original" texture. I wonder if beef dripping or fat from the butcher would be the secret.  rubschin:
Also my sugar on the top never seemed right ~ I tried once with sugar lumps that I put in a bag and bashed with a rolling pin. That came closest to the top I remember.
Oh and Morrisons Lardy cake is nothing like those from the Hovis Baker at the end of Gran's road.

... or the Tuck Shop at school ... I'm sure DS will concur  whistle:
