Tax Avoidance
« on: June 21, 2012, 05:04:25 AM »
So Jimmy Carr and the newly sainted Gary Barlow are on the naughty step for allegedly being involved in tax avoidance schemes . I am sure they all employ quite savvy accountants who sort out these affairs for them as do many , many other companies and dare I say Politicians. !!!!

Therefore how naive is it for Mr Cameron to make the following statement...

Commenting while attending the G20 summit in Mexico, Mr Cameron said:
Quote
“I think some of these schemes – and I think particularly of the Jimmy Carr scheme – I have had time to read about and I just think this is completely wrong.

“People work hard, they pay their taxes, they save up to go to one of his shows. They buy the tickets. He is taking the money from those tickets and he, as far as I can see, is putting all of that into some very dodgy tax avoiding schemes.

“That is wrong. There is nothing wrong with people planning their tax affairs to invest in their pension and plan for their retirement – that sort of tax management is fine.

“But some of these schemes we have seen are quite frankly morally wrong.

That is going to bite him in the bum as I'm sure the media will be doggedly searching to find anyone in his party doing similar.

The problem is the loopholes and legislation  - sort that out. You can't rely on 'morals' where paying tax is concerned  noooo:

Agreed!

The problem is that we are all taxed too highly...

People object to their hard-earned (be it £15K per year or £15M) being stolen by the gubberment and pissed away on the feckless and their other pointless pet projects.

And who put in all these loopholes - exactly, the gubberment.

I think the only thing you can accuse Carr of is being a hypocrite. And as you say, the chances are that Camermong is that squared.

I was just wondering why Mr C has chosen to draw fire?   What else is happening?   rubschin:

So Jimmy Carr apologises for doing something that as he said himself "I met with a financial advisor and he said to me 'Do you want to pay less tax? It's totally legal'. I said 'Yes'."

It's legal ~ don't apologise.

 noooo:

Personally I think it's everyone's duty to avoid paying as much tax as possible. (no pun intended)

So, what about the tirade he launched at Barclays?    rubschin:

Edit: Here's what I was looking for ...

"Last year on Channel 4 Jimmy Carr took on Barclays for carrying out a tax-avoidance scheme. Carr donned a blonde wig to play a female bank clerk. ‘Why don’t you apply for the Barclays’ 1 per cent tax scam,’ she announced to her customers. ‘You will need the world’s biggest, most aggressive team of blood-hungry amoral tax lawyers. If you meet the criteria, you’ll pay 1 per cent tax, like Barclays do.’ "
