Russia claims the North Pole

WTF !  Oh boy, this one's going to run and run. Melting ice caps, increasingly accessible resources, territorial litigation... we haven't seen anything like this since the Klondyke run  eeek:

What do you mean our armed forces Mr Sleepy-Island-in-the Med?

If you hadn't got one decent mountain on which it was worth putting a listening post for the Middle East, you'd still be in the stone age. ;)

I don't really understand how they can "claim" it. Surely it already belonged to someone?  rubschin:

Technically its in international waters wenchy but there is an oscure piece of law that means Russia can try and blag a claim by stating that this ridge they have been on about is actually an extension of Russia. As it goes under the Pole....

Surely this is a job for Captain Calamity?

A weekend at the Kremlin and Russia would give up its claim on the North Pole and hand over Lugevoy in the bargain.

If you brave lads are unsuccessful I do have a backup plan, fake a news article saying that Russia has announced they are going to annexe Wenchy's tat mountain.

I think it's only fair seeing as the Americans are sitting on the South Pole...

As we (the UK or EU - Suit yourself) are still an international force to be reckoned with, we should go out there and grab the West Pole quick.
