Title: Wine snobs
Post by: DDD on November 29, 2010, 07:28:57 PM
Because of the current recession like, I've been looking to buy my swally in ever-greater quantities at ever-lowering prices. The Significant Spender is being forced (and complying) with the same remit.

She's settled (actually, almost horizontally settled) with a Calafornian Zinfandel at €2.99 a pop, while I have taken a liking to Lidl's cheapo-zonko (dry, white and excellently quaffable) at €1.73 for 1.5 ltr!

I posted elsewhere tonight to advise of my new-found delight of saving money and getting pissed on the proceeds when some git advised:

Quote
"If it costs less than £10 a bottle then it onlt deserves to go in the bin - you obviously dont undrestand the intracsies of wine".

Now, I'm sorry, but you are either pissed and can't operate a keyboard or you are swaggering knob that doesn't understand that acceptable tasting swally doesn't have to be expensive.

What thoughts do the dear inhabitants of the lower-priced VP have?

I've been buying Baron d'Arignac at about €3.50 and picked up a load of Australian Cabernet and Californian Ruby Carbernet at Lidl last week for €2.99...  cloud9:

Anybody that thinks wine needs to cost a certain price before it is drinkable is a c**t in my humble opinion....

The only reason I can see to buy expensive wine is if you plan to "Lay it down" for your great-grandchildren...... as far as I am concerned they can buy their own!
I buy it to drink within weeks if not days so the less I have to pay the happier I am.

At that price I'm surprised they can afford the ink to print all that on the box!

I'm not sure where I am - but I'm rapidly getting pissed at the rate of €1.20 a litre. It's not knock-out stuff, but I reckon €2.50 will see me fine tonight.

I'm about to post on various threads - if I make no sense, at least you know that I came cheaply.  whistle:
