The truth is that there is no correlation between the severity of NPIs and the death rate... Anywhere...
Yet we are heading back to yet another Lockdown in the hope that it will work this time... ::)

Just as aside I note they show positive test and death rate as so many per 100,000. If they used percentage it would be 0.0243% and 0.00002% of the population respectively. Not exactly scary. rubschin:

I make it 0.0002% per day death rate but your point is essentially true that lockdown + vaccination has got our death rate right down (and as/more importantly the hospitalisation rate).
Just like they were in July last year before the eat to help out initiative etc blew it right back up again. We have to hope vaccination has squashed it for good. Still only half of Brits here have had a jab.
Cyprus death rate at ~3 a day is (only) about 7 times ours per capita, it's their infection rate at ~1% every two weeks and growing that isn't good at all.

The government on Friday imposed a fresh lockdown for two weeks between April 26 and May 9 in a bid to stem the rapid spread of Covid infections, which are threatening to overrun the island’s health system.
The lockdown will be lifted on May 10 but visiting crowded venues will require negative Covid tests or being vaccinated or having gone through the illness inside the past three months. Venues include catering, places where people gather, gyms, retail outlets, theatres. It was not immediately clear if it included supermarkets as well.
“We cannot remain indifferent to the rising number of infections together with the intense pressure on the health system because of the large number of hospitalisations,” Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou said.
The minister said the situation required “difficult decisions and drastic measures” In a bid to stem the spread of the virus in the community and reduce the number of hospitalisations.
The new measures include a 9pm to 5am curfew with the exception of people travelling to work or health related movement.
Gatherings are also banned, irrespective of venue and only one outing per day will be permitted via text message. No text will be required for those going to a vaccination centre.
The operation of hospitality venues, including those in shopping centres, is suspended with the exception of delivery and take away. Only delivery services are permitted after 9pm.
Shops, apart from those selling food and drink or other essential items will also close.
Easter Sunday is exempted from the restrictions, the minister said. Apart from the permanent residents, people from two other families can be at a home, provided their number does not exceed 10 persons, including minors.
Places of religious worship will operate without the presence of worshippers. Weddings, christenings, and funerals can have a maximum number of 10 people.
On Easter Saturday (May 1) worshippers will be allowed in church courtyards provided they are seated and observe physical distancing and other health protocols.
Fifty people will be allowed inside based on protocols. No worshippers can attend church services during the other days of the Holy Week.
The curfew will be extended until 1am on May 1 to accommodate churchgoers.
The order mandates work from home for at least 20 per cent of workers in public services, apart from those deemed essential.
Private businesses can have 20 per cent of their staff present, with three being the minimum and 25 the maximum.
The number of staff requiring testing is raised to 50 per cent. Businesses where up to five people would be present must test all of them.
Outdoor and indoor cinemas, theatres, and other halls will close.
Gyms, dance, and other schools will also close. Personal training outdoors will be allowed provided there are only two people.
Betting shops, barbers, hairdressers, and beauticians will also close.
All group private tuition is banned, as well as sports and social activities involving children under 18.

We're still under lockdown restrictions, only allowed out twice a day (after seeking permission via SMS), masks everywhere, no indoor drinking or dining... The only real relaxation has been allowing outdoor dining and drinking...
From Monday we'll be even more locked down, only allowed out once a day and everything closed again - no doubt 'non-essential items' roped-off in supermarkets... Apart from Easter when the virus is apparently taking a holiday... ::)
The facts are that Lockdown hasn't worked as claimed on the tin. If it did, we wouldn't need to go into a third on Monday (which in itself is causing shops, bars and restaurants to be rammed this weekend ::))
Perhaps it is a cultural thing, Cypriots like to shop daily... Perhaps it is a 'small number of idiots that don't obey the rules' but that isn't my observation, masks are everywhere (even single drivers in cars) and the expats are fanatical about the rules... Perhaps it is keeping people locked-up and away from fresh air and sunshine that is having an effect on the numbers...?
Bottom line is that Locking down has put the economy in the toilet and hasn't had an effect on the numbers - nor can anybody here explain why the numbers are rising... shrugs:
And people are completely fed up with it now, they've obeyed the rules, they've watched the businesses of friends and relatives collapse (a friend that has run a hairdressers in the village for years threw in the towel after yesterday's announcement) and here we go again into yet more restrictions.

Your vaccination level is very low, your caseloads are exponentially increasing and if you don't lockdown again then in a matter of weeks you will be like India is now and then you really will see an economic disaster.

They don't tho... Look at Florida and Texas... In fact compare all 50 states and the ones that have little to no lockdown fare better than those that have it hard...
Ultimately, Lockdown could work if you really locked everybody in their homes and delivered food parcels... But you can't do that... People need to eat, essential workers need to work. Locking people up indoors and mask wearing are not conducive to good health or hygiene.

Which surely proves my points...? We're in Lockdown already and yet cases are increasing... With effect from 10/05/2021 (at 06.00 p.m. m) to 31/05/2021 (05.00 am)
1. Curfew between 11 in the evening until 5 in the morning of the following day excluding the following cases:
(i) Transition to and from workplaces, as well as for work purposes using the Employee Traffic Certification Form,
(ii) Transition to medical center or nursing home or pharmacy or vet for medical emergency,
(iii) Remove measure to send a text message to 8998 to move
2. Allow gatherings in public places (parks, squares, dams, excursions, beaches, pedestrian streets and Marinas, etc. ), thinking that they will not exceed 10 people, including minor children.
3. Up to 10 persons are allowed to attend homes, including underage children.
4. (a) The congregation and other forms of religious worship in religious areas are subject to necessary Coronapass presentation and with a maximum number of 50 people until May 16, 2021,
(b) As of May 17, 2021, the presence of believers with a maximum of 30 % of the capacity of religious worship is allowed, with necessary presentation of Coronapass,
(c) As of June 1, 2021, the presence of believers with a maximum of 50 % of the capacity of religious worship is allowed, with necessary Coronapass presentation.
5. (a) Allowed to hold meals / dinners and any other events for weddings and christening with a maximum of 10 persons including minors children until May 16st, 2021,
(b) From May 17, 2021, only outdoor meals / dinners are allowed, seated and up to 200 persons, with necessary Coronapass presentation. Cocktails are forbidden,
(c) From June 1st, 2021, meals / dinners are also allowed indoors on the basis of the agreed schedule, with necessary presentation of Coronapass.
6. Religious ceremonies (weddings, baptisms, funerals) with a maximum number of 10 persons until May 16, 2021. From May 17, maximum number 200 persons, considering that the fullness of 30 % will be fulfilled within the place of worship, with necessary Coronapass presentation.
7. Education continues normally with physical presence, with the presentation of a mandatory weekly rapid test. High School, High School and Secondary School students, on their 1th day in attendance, namely May 10, 2021 should submit a negative test with 72 hours validity.
8. Visitors to nurses, clinics, medical and diagnostic centers are allowed upon approval of the Executive Director of the Center and with a negative PCR test within 48 hours.
9. All outdoor catering areas are allowed to operate (restaurants, taverns, cafes, beers, snacks and bars, cafes and catering areas inside shopping malls, canteens and / or sports clubs, cultural groups, clubs, clubs, etc) , on the basis of the current protocol. Patrons should be owned by Coronapass. From June 1st, 2021, interiors are also allowed to operate in the catering areas.
10. Open-air and closed theaters, amphitheats, cinemas, and spectacle halls (a) with a maximum of 50 people until May 17, 2021, with necessary Coronapass presentation.
(b) After May 17, 2021 fullness up to 30 % in closed spaces and 50 % in open spaces. It is necessary to provide with Coronapass.
(c) From June 1st, fullness increases in closed spaces with a maximum of 50 %, with necessary coronapass presentation
11. Popular markets will operate at 50 % completeness and 1,5 meter between persons under protocol, without the presentation of Coronapass.
12. The ban on mass events, demonstrations, parades, concerts, outdoor festivals, festivals in public or private places remains
13. Operation of closed shopping centers is allowed, provided that Coronapass is presented.
14. Allowed to operate the remaining retail, including superstores and department stores and large stores with meter 1 person to 10 sq.m. of beneficial space, with Coronapass presentation only in large superstores and shop stores.
15. Allowed to operate the aesthetics and hairdressing centers on the basis of the Protocol, without the presentation of Coronapass.
16. Allow the operation of gyms, dance schools and other sports schools, as these were valid until April 30, 2021 with necessary Coronapass presentation to those who train in closed spaces.
17. Well looks like my concerns about work being dead may not come to anything. Now the kitchen/bar renovation has finished and we have access to (almost) all of our screens we had just short of 200 customers tonight. Not massive numbers but certainly better than we had been planning for. Thumbs:

People are worried that if they book, where they book to will not not be on the "green" list at the time they travel, or will be but won't be upon their return. Quarantine lottery. 2021 looking like a write-off.
Frankly, passengers should just say fuck the bed-wettery of this and other governments, go on holiday and enjoy themselves.

Zactly ....I return 80?% of deposits if it is like 6 months AND a genuine reason ..purely to avoid "bad press" on FB bride sites etc ...but like you say ..I turn down work if "you" book a date (or sub it out )..so they expect me to lose out ... noooo:
