Title: Wedding lists
Post by: Nick on February 28, 2015, 04:39:24 PM
My nephew is getting married in August. Christ knows why. They have been living together for 5 years. Just get fucking married!! Anyhoo, the invite arrives (12 months after the "Save the Date" fridge magnet  evil:) and suggests we all contribute to the honeymoon fund. I call the travel agency. Oh yes sir, the usual gift is £100  Shocked:  Since there are about 120 invited they can sod off!! You could get to sodding Mars for that. £50 through clenched fingers  evil: evil: evil:

He is a heavy metal drummer anyhoo, so he makes a fortune. And since she is blind he could take her in a flight simulator and tell her she was anywhere  evil:

When Mrs NIck and me eventually got married we just did it in 6 weeks. Got licence. Some Catholic nonsense. Booked a room in a hotel for a "family lunch" (Richmond Hill: Petersham Hotel) for about £700 and that was that. Hotel went bonkers when they heard it was a "Reception" but tough shit. Glad it was cheap, like

Well yes and I don't want to piss on your business but why do so any want their wedding to be a little short of a Hollywood production - and then start off life being so in dent to get the things they need?

So so glad we haven't got kids, they'd have been so angry when we said "no, you are not going to have a Royal wedding like do"

It is about a third of the price here even after flights and accomodation for the couple....the reason they want it is because of all this celeb bollocks...they all want to be Jordan or someone......... noooo:

oh noes, I have it all planned, even spoke to the venue owner (Apey doesn't know this yet). Ceremony and all day bbq on the beach basically for free.  Thumbs: (he will like that that part)

My sister's wedding went so OTT it was ridiculous. Luckily my Dad hand made all the decorations including the name-places etc. In fairness it was absolutely stunning but I had to tie "vintage lace" (net curtain strips) around 750 jam jars with candles in them   noooo:

The reason we had to make everything was because my Dad cashed in his ISA for her first wedding which never occured. My folks came here to fit my bridesmaid dress a couple of months before and while they were here she left him and moved back into their house without telling anyone.  lol: He was an absolute knob anyway.

Still. I digress........the added extras soon mount up. If you pay for the candles, you have to pay for the candle holders, If you want photos of the cake cutting, you have to pay to borrow the pretty silver cake cutter etc. So easy to be ripped off.

My sis has just enjoyed 18 days, 5*, all inclusive in Mexico thanks to this new "honeymoon fund"  noooo:  Why can't we still go to Argos and buy a cutlery set or a toaster?  noooo:

Nope, that's why Apey didn't come.

I thought it was really cheeky considering everyone had to pay to stay in the wedding hotel for at least one night also. Oh and 40 of us had to go for dinner the night before..

The more I think about it, she is the spoiled, pampered little bitch I always thought she was.  evil:

Plus if you get a gift, nobody knows how much you spend, when you give cash you don't want to appear to be a tight arse......

One of my nephews got married a couple of years back, they wanted a new car so they asked you to pay for parts of it. Thought it was quite a good idea, alhough I didn't contibute -  i thought that since thay had got married in Florida a few weeks prior & this was the 'English' reception, spending over £60 on petrol to get to Manchester & back & staying in a hotel for a couple of nights was enough outlay on my part. It lasted about 7 months. His twin is getting married in June, they have asked for money towards a honeymoon as they have been living together for about 5 years. The wedding is in Lytham St Annes so guess what they are getting from me ? That's right a bucket & spade.
