Don't really think it appropriate to start messin' around in the funeral thread now tbh, so thought I'd do a seperate one for thoughts of how it all went today.
In a werd or two really, incident free, only I have NO doubt at all that Nick will make some drama and exagerated tale up about nowt. ::)
Met my lickle chicky for the very first time cloud9:
'Ad tuns and tuns of BIG UG'S with her...many years werth. cloud9:
She's an absolute and thouroughly delightful luvlee and funny owld trowt, and am so pleased to have finally met her...and Mr C too.
I was a bit nervous that I might be overwhelmed by all this intelligence around me, but no. One HELL of a really pleasant friendly grumpy top top bloke.
Proud to have been in their company for a few hours. Thumbs: Thumbs: Thumbs: cloud9:

He needs a carer noooo:

Nah, he's on a London bound train unfortunately, but the wrong one, and now he's seemingly having a stand up arguement with the ticket inspector who wants to fine him. lol:
I just KNEW everything had gone too smoothly today, knew it.

We both agreed that building a crem. in the middle of an industrial estate was most unique btw. confused: rubschin:

Yes, especially one with a fireplace shop on the way in noooo:
Stiill Woodstock told us she plans to keep his ashes so she can still nag him

Anyways, I'm currently in full gorge mode on a most lush and hev cake courtesy of my lickle chicky. cloud9:

Forgot about that! lol:
What an odd place.
Wasn't actually 100% sure we were in the right place tbh, made all the more disconcerting as the funeral had seemingly started early.
I was just SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSO relieved when I heard the vicar mention Snoop's full name. cloud9:
-
I'm so pleased it was a cremation.... I had visions of Nick falling in the hole.... noooo:

I think Miss C would have beaten me to it. She has taken to walking everywhere backwards for some reason rubschin:

She prolly didn't like the thought of you being behind her.... whistle:

Those two caught me off balance. redface:
The crem was indeed in a most peculiar place and I have to admit to chuckling at the fireplace firms advertising hoarding (sp) most odd and no signs for the crem at all. It really was in the middle of an industrial estate.
I did ask Nick if it was appropriate to start a funereal rant he replied jst bear in mind that Garfield could see everything. Sorry Garfield but I don't think you will be offended by this.
I was in a fury that the funeral started 10 minuses early.
Nick went ahead of Growler Mr C and I and when he got to the door started gesticulating wildly. We made our way to the doors of the building, me hobbling/limping/going backwards, (I'm fine once I have got a bit of momentum going but it takes a while) Growler at a fair lick and Mr C trying to support me with his left arm (the rest of him was attached) and they were shut. Quietly burst through the doors Nick was seated rev was in place the eyes of the disapproving usher if that is what they were called, indicated we should sit on the right we sat on the left next to Nick, some shuffling ensued to ensure that Nick was on the outside next to the isle. I do believe I heard the hound chuckling.
The service was short and the bit that got me was the fact that in this day and age there was no inclusion of any other faiths or none faiths. It was not the families doing in any was it was a standard service but it just assumed that we were all christians, a big no no in my eyes but that is just me.
Growler brought me some beautiful flowers which have takedv pride and place here in the van and will be taken home too. I did indeed get loads of Growler hugs cloud9: and delivered one from Boogs as instructed and gave him some Miss C hugs. A hugathon it was I tells you.
The rest went as described elsewhere other than one last thing which I am hugging close at the moment but will tell tomorrow.
Service starting early....Arse. evil:

I commented on the fluffiness of Miss C's hair. cloud9:
She's very 'uggy and scrummy. cloud9:

The irony here is that much of my childhood was spent with my mother telling The Old Boy he'd be late for his own bloody funeral shrugs:
-
On a slightly more forceful note, I REALLY think that my lickle kitten should apply some pressure upon MrC to join up in here.
I was initially a bit on edge as to what to expect before meeting him, as I didn't really know a great deal about him prior to Wednesday.
He rarely gets a mention in here.
However, fears were rapidly allayed and he turns out to be a really top cheeky grinning mischievous eyed bloke, with parrallel grumps gripes and observarions to the rest of us, and exceedingly intelligent and interesting to listen to. cloud9:
Dunno where you found him Miss C, but we need him in here.

It was indeed lovely to meet the VP contingent, despite the circumstances.
I don't think any of the family were aware of the service starting early, but we'd been kept outside standing next to the hearse for a considerable amount of time before they unloaded which seemed beyond cruel so were all a bit numb. Nor did I notice the fireplace shop but rest assured that would have raised a hoot from him ;)

That must have been awful for you all happy100 and my comments were in no way directed at the family, I hope that you know that.
This, I think, will be my last post on the subject. I have pondered on whether I should share this or not, my ponderings have led me to the conclusion that my reasons for not sharing are selfish therefore share I will.
As I type there is a tear in my eye and there is much gazing out the window at the trees on the other side of the valley as I search for the right words to tell this little tale which for me is such a huge tale which will shed light on the dignity and generosity of Mr Malcolm Lawrence and Mrs Alison Lawrence.
After the service we were invited back to the house. Nick and Growler led the way as they purported to know where they were going. When we got there parking was difficult, Nick directed us to an alleyway which ran behind not only the Lawrence's house but a number of others. We duly parked and entered the back garden and were let in through the back door of the property. What went on whilst in there has been noted elsewhere so I will fast forward to when we were leaving.
We made our way through the kitchen, utility room and back garden accompanied by Alison, as we stopped at the wrought iron gates on the drive Alison explained that there was a knack to opening them as Malcolm had once, when on his mobility scooter, backed into them at speed, denting one of them.
We all laughed and I said that I had just started looking at mobility scooters. Alison immediately said 'oh you can have Malcolm's' I was taken aback but explained that I was just looking for a small one not an all singing all dancing ones. 'Oh he has one of those too, take it it comes to pieces and he could do it with one hand, it fitted in the boot of his car, I'll go and get it now'. We stopped her, thanked her, told her to go back to her guests. Alison explained that Malcolm had been quiet insistent that his two mobility scooters should not just be sold or given to a charity shop rather they were to go to people who needed them and would use them. We said that if she was serious then we would come back on Friday she said yes come you have to have a test drive. Breathing space all round.
Friday saw us back at the house, sitting in the study where Malcolm had written so much, not only on the VP but also editing the village mag, other things too no doubt and drinking coffee with Alison. She told us again about Malcolm's wishes that his scooters were to go to people who needed them and would use them.
Fast forward again and we were out on the drive Alison showing us how to put a scooter together and then me test driving said scooter round their drive trying not to run anyone over, we had by this time been joined by a friend of Alison's.
I then drove the scooter out of the dented gate to the door of our van and we loaded it up. I was somewhat overwhelmed, I hugged Alison and thanked her, it was she who comforted me in that moment.
So here I am with scooter from Snoops courtesy of his (bad) driving a dented gate and a chance comment. I hope that I accepted this gift graciously.
The very personal thing is that this will change my life. As Nick has said I have taken to walking backwards much of the time, I am unable to drive, am unable to walk far and am not safe to be let out on my own. Because of this I am reliant on Mr C and have little or no independence. So if I need to post a letter, collect a prescription silly things like that I have to ask Mr C to ferry me around. He doesn't mind but I don't like it hence me starting to do research into mobility scooters.
Quite simply this gift will change my life. I feel somewhat humbled and somewhat privileged. So thank you Malcolm wherever you are.
I just hope that it doesn't turn out to be anything like this......... scared2: scared2:

Also, I am sure all will agree that you are a most deserving recipient and it is pleasing to see the scooter still doing good within the VP family. cloud9:

I will do my best. The drive has a fairly steep gradient, as does the garden if I don't get it right on the way down I may well gain enough momentum to end up Wiley Coyote like against a tree on the other side of the valley.

You should find a set of gates to dent, just to let the scooter know you will keep up the tradition
And what the others said. Brilliant story Miss C that just had to be told.

I didn't for a second think the comments were directed at us, apologies if that was implied. I'm so glad you did decide to post this. Alison had told us when she came back in and everyone agreed it was the very best thing to do, and whilst I believe the boys had a moment of sorrow that they never would get to race his two scooters ... the rest of Dyserth most likely breathed a sigh of relief ;D

Alison had told us when she came back in and everyone agreed it was the very best thing to do, and whilst I believe the boys had a moment of sorrow that they never would get to race his two scooters ... the rest of Dyserth most likely breathed a sigh of relief ;D
No apology needed therefore we can stop aplolgising. It was just a personal observation. So we have cleared that one up. ;)
I am so glad that you talked about and agreed upon things. cloud9: It just makes things feel even better for me. cloud9:
With regards to the boys may be a tad early yet but the Dyserth mobility scooter Grand Prix has a certain ring to it. We could close the roads off legitimately and everything. There could be munny in this.
Garfield I am glad that things were discussed, I am even more glad to see you in here. Please stay a while if not longer. cloud9:
Quite so.... Thumbs:
We will of course need to field a male driver for the Dyserth mobility scooter Grand Prix... especially if there is parking or reversing involved.... whistle:

We need to see the route options, hill top finish?

Aye - and if it is a Le Mans start that counts Miss C out anyways.... whistle:

This is Alison Lawrence's sister here and I'm just popping in with a message for Miss C. AJ mentioned this forum and at the weekend I googled in a fit of curiosity, found you and read this thread. So I have joined to post you this message...
The week after M died, AJ mentioned that they wanted the scooter(s) to go where they would make a difference. She asked me if I knew of anyone (I work in the disability field and have a number of disabled friends and colleagues), but there was no-one I thought appropriate. The subject came up again in Dyserth last Tuesday evening but I still had no-one in mind. We left it that the person it was "meant" for would turn up sooner or later, and preferably sooner.
After her conversation with you, Miss C, at the gate on Wednesday afternoon she told us that she thought you should have it and, as you know from Garfield, we all agreed that this sounded good. It was discussed again late that evening with mention that you would be returning to try it out and AJ mentioned it again the next day while we were having coffee. We said how pleased we were that the right person had been found.
It is clear that you are the person meant to have it, and it is particularly good to hear that it will change your life. So while you are saying that you feel "humbled and somewhat privileged", we in turn feel grateful that the right person emerged easily and so obviously, and that the scooter that made such a difference to M has found a good home where it will continue to make a difference in someone's life.

A lovely post Quest. I sincerely hope you will stick around now you have joined.

cloud9: Welcome Quest, pop in whenever you are passing. Try and avoid early morning though as there could be some clearing up needed. cloud9:

I was thinking, you often read and see in the news of some horrible deeds and the scum that perpetrate them. So much so that that you despair of the human race. Then, someone like Malcolm, his family and the people they know and love come along and remind you that there are good, kind and caring souls in world.
It's a shame it's often only noticed after their passing.
-
Biting top lip here cos you've just put in to words what I was thinking earlier but didn't have the words, if you know what I mean. sad24:

Thank you for the welcome. smile: I do know what you mean, Uncle Mort. Since my own health mishap started 4-5 years ago I have, at times. been almost overwhelmed by the kindness and thoughtfulness of so many people.

Funnily enough my daughter said that today when I told her the tale. Mr C is beside himself with excitement at the thought of inventing a solar powered rocket launcher.
Anyhoo I came here to say that I am not one for putting stickers on car windows or hanging fluffy dice from mirrors but I have just purchased one of these for the Snoopsmobile. I thought it appropriate somehow.

Wo'ris what like? The Snoopsmobile is a lightweight scooter with a 20 mile + range, Alison showed me it in bits ( the scooter not her) then put it together. It fits in the boot of a car and Snoops was able to do it single handedly. When the sticker has arrived and been stuck I will post pictures.
The sticker no real idea until it gets here I have never purchased a bumper sticker before.

Just a thought, that looks like it's stuck on a window so it will be sticky on the picture side, does yer scooter have a window. If not, you need a bumper sticker that will be sticky on the back side (so to speak like) rubschin:

JOM reveals he is a sticker aficionado whistle:
That flyposting on Bickering Green ...did we ever find the culprit ? rubschin:

No, I once had a manager that went out and bought 15 new "Motorway Maintenance" stickers for the new fleet of lorries, he bought the window type Wankah: He was reminded of it occasionally ;) and his final reminder was at his retirement do where the story was related again and he was presented with one of the stickers along with other goodies lol: (Smashing bloke actually)

Nothing yet it hasn't arrived I have just looked at the snoopsmobile and really the only place that it can go is either on the back of the seat or on the basket.

A belated  from me too Miss C
Just a thought but wouldn't one of those kiddy glossy stickers packs have one that'd fit anywhere.
