I wonder if it affects Darwin?
No he's probably all right. It's Pigs, Sheep and Cattle. I don't think Turnips or Turkeys are affected.
Although I'm not sure about DS personally rubschin: There are those who believe that he is cloven hoofed.

I see the nice people from DEFRA are sorting it out, so there is nothing to worry about.

Ah! The good old, tried and tested KILL & BURN policy. Never fails ::)

Well it was certainly a long-term solution the last time they tried it? noooo:

Prime Minister Gordon Brown cancelled his holiday after being told the disease had been found on a farm near Guildford, Surrey
Poor Gordon!
The Government's Cobra emergency contingencies committee met last night to discuss the outbreak, with Mr Brown taking part by phone from his holiday in Dorset.
Hang on, is he on holiday or not???
'Cobra' they think a lot of themselves don't they? Could they not be called 'Operation Overtime, Coffee & Make Vague Suggestions'?
bs:
-
More to the point why is he on holdiay in Dorset of all places? Shouldn't he be in Scotland? Or cosying up to Jimmy SHand or someone?
-
They eat dogs over here, Beagle...

And what's wrong with a holiday in Dorset? evil:
Anyway if you read the full facts GB went to Dorset for a few days, including viewing the preparations for the Olympic Yachting etc. and is then spending the rest of his holiday in the family home in SCOTLAND.
He is clearly showing the difference between the Freebie Blairs and the Prudence Brown family.
-
Scotland is frightful so I am glad he is having a holiday there. I wish him every misery evil:

Didn't she used to be something in the films?
Yes here she is. Married Eddie Fisher at one time. Starred in "Singing In The Rain"

So wot's she got to do with Foot 'n' Mouth then?
-
Would that be the 2nd Battalion Foot and Mouth , I thought they had been disbanded?

I wonder if it affects Darwin?
Thank you for the "concern".
We have none of the at-risk livestock and most in the immediate area are the same.
It will go one of two ways, isolated outbreak nipped in the bud or carnage again. cry:

That'll be the Jeyes Fluid fumes.
I have just heard, on the news, that David Cameron has offered Gordon Brown "His support".
Though quite whether Gordon will wear it is not made clear.
Oh sometimes they make it too easy! tunble:

I do have a bit of a sore throat though. scared2:
with your sore throat and my eye infection I think we may have a case of government poison trials.. scared2: scared2:

P'raps our dear old Darwin can explain to this 'townie', but I find it quite staggering that they are taking the dead infected carcass' all the way from Surrey BY ROAD in as good as open trucks, to bloody Somerset to be incinerated!! eeek:
I thought this highly viralant virus was easily transmitted via the wind ffs?
I would therefore imagine that the wind will be swirling around these carcass',and blowing all over the countryside en route?
Why don't they simply burn and bury them on site?
-
Five will get you ten it'll have something to do with EU regulations meaning that the carcasses have to be destroyed in approved plants and that the costs of meeting the regulations have driven all local knackers yards out of business.

Snoopy has the broad answer I'm afraid. Disposal, even by burning, has to be done on approved sites only.
They do however, spray gallons of the disinfectant over them before the lorry leaves, and they put dust-proof covers strapped down over the lot. (you could see a bloke pulling one tight in the background of one of the BBC clips)
It did occur to me that the media could have explained that, as it looked like they just chucked them in the back of an open wagon and drove off in a cloud of virus laden dust.
Wait until they find some half-wit DEFRA lab-technician put a load of virus-soaked test samples out in the wheelie bin at the research place next door. evil:

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....the animal research place 'next door' ey?
There lies a story me thinks. ;)
Run by radical muslims by any chance?

I'm impressed! Does DEFRA read our board or is DS a prophet?
Foot-and-mouth strain identified
The strain of foot-and-mouth found at a Surrey farm is identical to one used at a nearby laboratory, says Defra

I was a bit worried about my turnip franchise actually, cute little things? sad24:
Actually, I was told yesterday that the DEFRA lab in question is the only place that keeps live F&M and was likely to be the source? whistle:

why don't they slaughter the cattle on site and still use the meat ? It's supposed to be ok to eat.. waste of good steak if you ask me.

Or at the very least sell it to the dog-o-chunks factory? shrugs:

Ahem ~ I think I fancy a salad for lunch today please, with perhaps a little smoked salmon?
