So it was less a restoration more a putting the old mini badge on a collection of stuff off eBay

Still surprised it broke

Me too - the old distributor was shagged out so I bought a new electronic one instead of a new mechanical one (I hate setting points)...

Jeez what a faff that used to be.  And then you had to reset the timing in case you didn't get exactly the same gap as before.

And then there was setting the carburetor with a Colourtune.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Not decrying the amazing job you did with MeMi but IIRC when it was done the realisation was it’s all about the journey not the end result

Not everything about modern cars is perfect but they are brilliant drives compared to 1960s stuff

Correct. Fascinating project and very proud of the result but there is good reason why they don't make them like that anymore - they're shit.

Just popped down to the village in LL's car - central locking, comfort, handling, quiet safety - lovely. Of course, you can add that lot to an old Mini - but then it wouldn't be an old Mini - you might as well buy a Bini....

And why buy a Bini when the Golf GTi is so much better?

We may be living in the true golden age of cars ( if not roads or other drivers ). Soon they’ll be all eco constrained, black box monitored and unable to turn off the stability aids.

But right now there are some stonking cars out there.
Well, whatever, nevermind

So what you need is a modern car that is in sore need of a total rebuild....

Start saving for parts now and wait for Nick to get a new car...

What? You drive all over the country doing contract work, while not quite as clapped out as a repmobile the miles would still taken their toll on the olwd sierra...  angel1
