So who is this Sooty then?

Yup. Now the old crow is in trouble with the PC Police. ::)  :

The Royal family have found themselves caught up in a new race row after it emerged the Prince of Wales has been calling an Asian friend by the nickname "Sooty".
Charles has been referring to Kolin Dhillon by the moniker for years whenever they meet at Cirencester Polo club where they are both members, according to a source.

In a statement issued from his Cheltenham office, he said: "I have to say that you know you have arrived when you acquire a nickname.

"I enjoy being called Sooty by my friends who I am sure universally use the name as a term of affection with no offence meant or felt.

Well WTF is all this latest fuss about then?

I'm off to find a new bladder. This one's burnt out. Banghead

Interesting observations from inspectorgadget

As a former British Army soldier I can categorically tell you that the term “Paki” would have been completely unacceptable, even as a nick-name, from anyone, let alone an Officer. And that was before Political Correctness was invented.

In my Regiment people were called Lofty, Ginger, Jock and Taffy. The term Paki would have been ‘across the line’ and we knew it. That expression was fighting talk and no less. The worst I ever heard was a black Corporal who was universally called “Benson” after a character in a popular TV comedy at the time.

I recall a popular expression at the time was "Paint me black and call me Benson" used when given any task that one didn't fancy.

One mans views, to which he is entitled, but many others comments underneath that don't quite see it the same, much the same as in here and other forums I frequent.
