LONDON (Reuters) - Health experts are to begin spot checks at hospitals to make sure they are taking effective steps to prevent outbreaks of potentially deadly superbugs.
Officials from the Healthcare Commission will inspect around 10 National Health Service trusts a month over the coming year in England.
The inspections by the health watchdog will be unannounced and will check compliance with the government's Hygiene Code.
LinkI heard this on the radio this morning?
The problem is I just can?t believe it any more ? does anyone?
My very, very first thought on hearing the article (which states that they will check 120 hospitals) was that they would check known good ones and this time next year issue a glowing report on how wonderful everything is.
My mother died in a MRSA infested, filthy NHS hospital where no visible precautions where taken to reduce infections. Its been going on for years and years so why now start to do spot checks?
A cynical PR stunt IMHO.
