Wedding Lists
« on: July 25, 2008, 12:33:52 PM »
Something of which I personally disapprove but never the less the "new" idea seems that you no longer place your list with a well known store and allow guests to browse the list and order the gifts but you go to a company on  the internet, tell them what you want, they build a list and then your friends, family etc can go on line to buy the gifts which will then be delivered sometime after the wedding.

Until of course it all goes wrong ~ as with this company.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7524530.stm

What gets me is the selfish b@st@rd who is complaining that he hasn't received his presents yet. Well if he had followed a more traditional route and not nominated gifts but allowed those who wished to give him and his bride a present of their own chosing then this would never have happened.

What is wrong with a toaster from Great Aunt Maud, a Canteen of Cutlery from the Bridesmaids and some monogrammed sheets from Mum & Dad? People are just too damned greedy these days.

You should see the lists recieved at the kennel over the past two years. For example my Cousin's son ..... I have met him twice in his thirty years on this earth. Once at his Christening and once at his Grandmother's funeral. So they invite us to the wedding in Scotland, suggest a hotel we might care to fork out to stay in and enclose the details of their wedding list. Nothing under £100.

We did not go and I sent them a toaster to make my point.

Cousin phoned me to ask where the toaster had come from because they wanted to return it.
Argos £9.99 ~~~ I do hope they had a wild spending spree.  eveilgrin:

If they reduced boiling point to 80 degrees I'd be very impressed, saving time and energy  ;D

I once saw the wedding list for the younger Manoukian brother, one time Armenian fixer emissary to Prince Jefri of Brunei; nothing under a grand  eeek:

I Must admit it gets beyond a joke, my sis went to a posh wedding of a workmate of her hubby, and there was nothing under £100 on list either, so she them £ 50 quid in vouchers, sod that, i would have give em 20 an like it, thats what i give to friends etc, familys maybe about £50 thats all i can afford so tough!  My daughter is getting a wedding dress out of me so she getting no prez! They are going to ask people for cash which i do think is a bit forward, i said maybe vouchers an then people may give you cash. or do what i seen on recent wedding invitation, no boxed gifts!

When we got married 6 yrs ago i felt so cheeky doing a wedding list so just asked for argos vouchers, classy aint it! but practical, we managed to buy our first bed with em all!  rubschin:

Sweet ~ practically newly weds ~ I hadn't realised. No wonder you still like marriage then.

My first marriage in 1963 ~ no guests, two witnesses who bought us a meal in a local chinese as their present (That was the reception) no cake, no gifts, no photos, nothing.
Second marriage in 1988 ~ 20 guests (all family), FiL paid for lunch in local hotel (We had booked it, paid deposit etc and expected to pay for the lunch) When I went to settle to bill afterwards reception told me FiL had paid for it  eeek: .... No present list. No requests made. Left it up to people to do what they wanted about it.

We didn't do a wedding present list and then, because people felt compelled to buy us presents ended up with the most appalling piles of tat which people thought we would like. They must think we are mental or something

When Mrs TMR (to be) and I tie the knot, I expect you all to buy us a present.

And yes, a pint of Young's will do just fine ;-)
