Brown wins crunch vote on 42 days

Quote from: BBC Web Shite
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has narrowly won a House of Commons vote on extending the maximum time police can hold terror suspects to 42 days.

It appears 37 Labour MPs joined forces with Conservative and Lib Dems to vote against the proposals.

But that was not enough to defeat the plan ministers claim is needed to deal with complex terror plots.

It was passed by 315 MPs to 306 votes. It will come as a big boost to Mr Brown after his recent troubles.

I think the whole country knows that he had to buy those votes and they also know those who were willing to be bought. I foresee many of them being out of a job come the General Election.

Depends on how many peerages Tony sol...er...handed out.

I suspect the Lords will amend it heavily and send it back, Gordo will have another strop and threaten to use the "Parliament Act" to force it through, compromises will be reached and everyone will claim to have won. Meanwhile expect to see Ian Paisley Knighted (at least) and more money poured from London into Nor'n Ireland than you would have believed possible ~ starting with £200million proceeds from the upcoming water privatisation in the six counties.
