http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ttj2r/The_Road_to_Coronation_Street/

Me roots, like  sad24: sad24:

Of course it started a little before my drinking age but I recall going to Granada's local theatre bar in the late 60's. Had the pleasure of receiving an "Ow do, lad?" from Pat Phoenix and witnessing Peter Adamson almost fall off his bar stool.

Watch it on iPlayer if you didn't see it ...

I must watch that just for the memories. I was born in the area it was/is based on. My street use to be one of those in the opening credits many years ago. When I was at building college the college was next to Granada studios and the likes of Stan Ogden, Len Fairclough (thumbs up Len), Ray Langton and Gerry Booth use to be in the pub at lunchtime next door. In his darkest days Tony Warren use to literally stagger past us when we were working on the A6 with a bottle in his hand

Battle of Britain night on BBC4 tonight  whistle:

I heard a remarkable phrase from an acquaintance during the week from a pal whose father flew ... the rule was "Eight hours from bottle to throttle... "

I.E. if you were bladdered at midnight you had to go to bed to achieve an 8:00am take off  eeek:

MM ..... uncomfortable viewing. I was hiding behind my cushion at one squeamish scene ...and it wasn't the one involving Red having surgery !
