There was a programme about these devices on Radio Four last night. The general advice was to wait as better and cheaper are coming to the market soon. There was considerable discussion, as might be anticipated, about traditional publishers being as obstructive as possible but the feeling was that these problems would be overcome along with those associated with reading from screens and possible "eye- strain", headaches etc that have apparently been experienced by many users. The summary seemed to be that this technology is improving, that prices will dip below £100 in a year or so and that they may well be the next "must have".

I would tend to agree with them. I think the big step came when they created the screen without the back light which is helping the eyestrain issue. I'm not normally that over excitable about a new gadget but I really can't wait for this one. Although I will be waiting till it has dropped in price and is as bugfree as it can be.

Although I wouldn't use it to replace all book purchases necessarily but for regular everyday trash reading it will be my method of choice.

It's here! (sort of)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015T963C//ref=amb_link_84995193_2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=gateway-center-column&pf_rd_r=0FCVX8TG26C6PTGBMQ3N&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=472917413&pf_rd_i=468294

I'm tempted, especially the newspaper subscription. Getting the Indy automatically downloaded each morning sounds good.

Does it come with the "accessory" for those of us like to be read to?

It is fabulous! A friend has purchased one and I had a play. Incredible. And as Mort points out the daily newspaper/magazine download function is worth it for that alone!
