Chuck Yeager

 sad32:

"Boom, boom" was his catchphrase

Shame sad32:
Huge shame sad32: sad32:

What a life he had, not just that sound barrier.  He had more guts than most of us could imagine

RIP
noooo:
To be fair, he must have outlived 99.99% of those in that line of work.
I mostly despair

"Boom, boom" was his catchphrase

Quote
Yeager had met Glennis before leaving the US for Europe. He had been tasked with organising a dance for his fellow flyers in a gym in Oroville, California, and dumped the task in the lap of a “very pretty brunette” he came across sitting in a small office next door to the gym. His chat-up line proved decisive.

“You expect me to whip up a dance and find thirty girls in three hours?” said the exasperated 18-year old girl.

“No, you’ll only need to find 29 because I want to take you.”

The line worked and they were a staunch couple through thick and thin until her death from cancer in 1990.

When I did local election stuff it was always in the same place every year ( or however frequent local, EU or national elections were ) .  She lived in the area and always insisted on coming in to vote in person .

Have to say she had time for everyone , used to bring in some treats for us and was so bubbly and kind. Yes she liked an audience, but it was genuine. Her husband also was incredibly supportive and just so proud of her.  cry:

I could never work out why she took all those idiot Carry On dumb blonde roles as she had far more acting talent than that.  Interestingly on R2 this morning they played a track of her singing - and she really could

The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.
