There are a number of small independant retaillers who use Ebay shops as their online sites. As long as you know what you are doing you can get some decent bargains on there. I'll be hunting for a new graphics card later on to see if I can get a better price than Amazon who seem to be selling the card I want cheaper than anyone else at the moment.

My much hated Dell is finally giving up the ghost so a replacement is needed.
Recommendations would be appreciated but price is very much a limiting factor.

Only just found this sad request. Do not go back to Dell, if you are still looking I will send you a few highly recomended links.

Offers of advice from all quarters for which I am very grateful.
Magazine treasurer says I can spend some money once this months invoices are paid.
Cannot find a machine with XP Pro anywhere as they all seem to have Vista now and frankly XP is not much better as you have said elsewhere.
Like you I am thinking Linux or even Apple. Like you I have a lot of machinery (3PCs and 2 Lap-tops) in the house and everything needs to be reasonably compatible and multi user friendly ~ which doesn't help
