I'm taking this with a pinch of salt till the Times releases the story but if it turns out to be true then Starmer's position just became untenable.  rubschin:

Quite

To point out the obvious Starmer hasn't died yet so this field or the monies he later sold it for will be part of his estate.  His parents wanted a donkey sanctuary he made it possible but he would have been plain stupid to outright gift it to them at their  ages.  And he did it in 1996 years before he entered politics.

And yes Meister it is in the Times https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/keir-starmer-donkey-field-inheritance-tax-trust-jcczlgmsz

There are many things to criticise Starmer for - this aint one of them.

Every so often youtube will randomly shove a GB news video on when I have it playing in the background it's not a channel I normally go out of my way to watch Mort.

Like I originally said, I was taking it with a pinch of salt until I could read the article in the Times.

GB News is a mainstream media channel watched by millions in the UK. Its viewing numbers often exceed those of more established media.

Given the efforts of some to defund it with an advertising boycott it has been remarkably successful.

Saying you'd spit on it because you dislike the presenters or their views is quite insulting and immature IMHO...  noooo:

Arguable but far far more are watching the ITV or BBC news.  Its use of high profile right wing presenters for current affairs programmes is way outside the spirit of our broadcasting rules on even handedness.  And it does appear, especially on its website, to cherry pick stories to appeal to a certain gammonesque mindset

GB News overtakes BBC for the first time

Quote from: The Telegraph
GB News has overtaken the BBC as Britain’s most watched news channel for the first time.

New figures from official ratings agency Barb show GB News beat both BBC News and Sky News during key time slots in July, in a major coup for the start-up broadcaster just after its fourth birthday.

The latest data show GB News pulled in an average audience of 80,600 across each day in July. That was ahead of BBC News on 78,700 and 67,000 for Sky News.

Crikey! Politics (and religion) shouldn't be discussed on forums  noooo:

Anyway:

While GB News led in average daily viewership in these slots, Press Gazette notes that the BBC News Channel still had more than twice GB News’ total weekly reach in July, with Sky News also ahead in reach. This indicates that while GB News engages viewers for longer periods, it currently attracts fewer unique viewers overall. BARB’s July figures are not yet consolidated, meaning BBC figures will likely rise once iPlayer data is included.

As far as I'm concerned GB News is the modern equivalent of The Daily Mail newspaper. It may be popular but you wouldn't take anything it says at face value.

Of course, there are millions of people in the country that would say exactly the same about The BBC, Guardian, etc. ::)

All that says is the sensible audience was split and easily outnumbered GB News with of course most of the sensible news viewers watching BBC News at 6 and 10 which get 3 million plus or ITV Evening news with 2.6 million https://www.barb.co.uk/viewing-data/most-viewed-programmes/

You can believe that if you wish...

The fact is that a station that only started in 2021 is posing a serious challenge to the established channels with millions of people watching and listening every day.

But of course you can continue to believe that everybody that agrees with your political views and watches the BBC are 'sensible' while everybody that chooses not to is morally inferior... ::)

And millions no longer watch the BBC, is that your point...? ::)

3 million+ watch the BBC news every night

That 2.8 million in a month for GB news is the number of day watches by an average of ~100k people.

BIG difference
Well, whatever, nevermind
