Hells Kitchen

Not the greatest of television viewing, but usually watchable if only to see celebs (and unknowns) make twats of themselves. This time though, I am getting totally pissed off with the drive towards trying to make controversy out of minor comments/situations. References to "pikeys picnics" and "shirtlifters" don't seem like the end of the world to me.

As much as Jim Davidson is a complete carrot, he was sort of right about our "good with colours" community - many of them do, indeed, follow the theatrical drag-queen way of behaviour and I don't think it does them any favours. A good friend at work is as camp as a row of pink tents, yet he never descends to the stereotypical "poof" image - and he hates those that do.

The chap on Hell's Kitchen last night, however, gave a gut-wrenching display of how to re-inforce such stereotyping. One thing's for sure, those that like JD will think he wasn't out of order, whilst those that don't will feel vindicated about his bigotry.

Don't forget, however, that JD was on prime time TV at one stage doing his "Chalky White" pi$$ take of blacks, but that was never consored. Times have changed. He hasn't.
