Rearranging Deckchairs...
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:04:53 AM »
A large chunk of our village is on the move - about 60cm per year towards the sea...

Most days I walk down to the village on the main road that has a mahoosive concrete retaining wall at the side of it...

Mahoosive concrete retaining walls don't travel well and it has been tearing itself apart... the cracks get visibly bigger every day...

This was back in March...

This is one I took yesterday - I could slide my hand through it...

I've walked down there just now and there is a big 'Men at Work' sign up... Obviously no men actually at work but still, I wondered what they had been up to.

And I found that in order to stop thousands of tonnes of concrete tearing itself apart as it heads towards the beach...

...they have glued it together with mastic. facepalm:

They need a Heath Robinson/Baldymort approach. Get load of bungee cords and glue/weld/nail them to either side of the crack along the top and side.

LL could make a fortune selling tickets for the 'Incredible Flying Baldymong' after you end up attaching all the cords to one side then try and pull them all tight at the same time before gluing them down...  whistle:

Well it'll stop people sliding their hands through it

for a couple of weeks, then more mastic needed.     rubschin: buy mastic futures
Well, whatever, nevermind

Well, it didn't last very long and the village council has now suggested that the road is too dangerous to drive down or even walk down...  eeek:

...but the road  can only be closed by Limassol District Council and of course holidays or whatever so it remains open... ::)

We have two weeks of heavy rain forecast starting tomorrow...

...and it is full of cracks now...

...and changing quite quickly...

I reckon the end of March.
