NZ Day 40

Auckland to Larnaca – the last post!

Left Auckland in the rain, briefly stopped in Dubai where it was 35 with a sandstorm and ended up in Cyprus where the weather is a very pleasant 24 with sunshine.

We didn’t fly until 8:30 so we set out and looked at Crystal Mountain – an amazing collection of crystals and fossils. Somewhat bizarrely, the shop preceded the museum and having spent an hour in it we felt no need to pay extra to see even more!

Then off to ‘Carriages’ for lunch – a restaurant that is built around two old NZ railway carriages…

But then our time was up and we headed off to the airport… Flight left on time and seventeen hours later we were touching down in Dubai. Two hours later we were off again in a sandstorm that seemed to have got much worse! It was literally drifting across the runways and aircraft just disappeared into it! Even the Burj Khalifa could barely be seen through it…

Watched some good movies on the planes – The Post, Journeyman and Alfie!

The clouds cleared for some beautiful views of Egypt and then before we knew it Larnaca was in sight...

Yes, given that they grounded everything because 'volcano' it is hard to see how they allow operations in thick sand like that!  eeek:
