NZ Day 36

Dunedin to Auckland

Up early and off to The Otago Settlers Museum. Then a quick trip around the Dunedin Botanical Gardens, off to the (tiny) Dunedin airport and a short flight back to Auckland...

You and LL going to take on the Tour de France on that bike?   Actually that looks an impressive museum, love that Buick but I bet it was shit to drive

It is a sensational museum...

The room with the portraits was divided into different years of arrival in Dunedin...

...they had touch screens with an image of each wall, and you clicked on the photo which allowed you to zoom in on the picture or get the history of the subject...

NZ Day 38

NZ Day 37 was a bit of local sightseeing and Musick Point

NZ Day 38 was a trip to Waiheke…

Up early to thick fog so not sure if we were going to make it (traffic delayed and some flights cancelled from Auckland Airport).

However, the fog cleared on the way to the ferry and we had a lovely crossing to Waiheke island. A quick explore of the lovely beaches, lunch and then the ferry back to Auckland.

Oh, and a bit of personalised number plate spotting on the way!

A bumper dose

Several brilliant ones, that transparent picture on the window is very clever but the Selfie sculpture gets my vote for sight of the day

And I'm betting POSOM girl looks like the back of that ferry.
Well, whatever, nevermind

NZ Day 39

Last full day!

A change in the wind brought P3 Orions from the nearby NZAF Whenuapai airbase training over the house which was excellent…

...but it also brought rain and low cloud.

Undeterred we made a quick trip to the West Coast stopping at the Arataki Visitor Centre and ended up at the amazing Piha Beach.

Weather was really only suitable for the surfers and fish and the potentially sensational views were somewhat muted by the weather - but definite places to include on the next trip!
