http://betanews.com/2015/07/02/windows-wifi-sense-is-a-useful-feature-misunderstood-by-the-media/
from that article

Quote
Wi-Fi Sense is enabled out-of-the-box on both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10. I know this because I have used both operating systems -- the former more so than the latter -- and have gone through their setup process more than once. But here is the trick -- this feature can be disabled at the setup stage, if users want to do so.
Only if they know about the issue and know how to disable it (remember that many Arsebook users can't even spell their own name).  If the Register hadn't highlighted this would they have known?

The issue is Microsoft defaulting to leaving a gate open, what else have they done this way?
Well, whatever, nevermind

I've planned for this though, my windows 8.1 backup stick is ready to reinstall if need be.  Thumbs:

The fact that you have to pay to get an ad free version of solitaire is already a mark against it though it seems...  rubschin:

Son has just finished installing 10 on his PC. It went very smoothly. He did use "Custom Setup" and turned off the more intrusive settings including Cortana as it appears 10 will snitch on the all the user's actions otherwise.

He says it seems faster and smoother than 7.

I have a fair amount of crap on the laptop that I won't miss but I'm backing up everything I want to keep onto a spare hard drive just to be safe. 110Gb of music is going to take me a little while though.

Did this last night.  Took 3 hours and two of the desktop icons have disappeared. ..

One was Spybot  - which it decided to uninstall - not sure what the other one was...
