They monopolise top sports and charge an arm and a leg to watch them.

They do?  Their rival BT shows European games, the FA Cup and a fair chunk of premiership games.  BBC and ITV between them showed every game of the recent World Cup.  BBC is having such massive coverage of the Euopean Championships and ITV covered the Tour de France

The fees Sky charge for premium coverage of sport reflect the monies the participants are due in a free market.  Before Sky came in sports men and women were constrained to relatively modest incomes because in effect the market for their talents was an unfair cartel.  We never saw Ashes cricket live from anywhere but the UK, we never saw the US Tennis Open, Live football had ended, we got scant coverage of F1 live etc etc.  And that's what we'd regress back to if the likes of Sky left the market

Well, whatever, nevermind
