RESIDENTS in York are being warned not to fall for a postal scam which may be operating in the city.

Trading standards officers say they have been alerted to cards being pushed through doors from a company called Parcel Delivery Service (PDS), suggesting they were unable to deliver a package and asking the homeowner to phone them.

The number listed on the card, 0906 6611911, is a premium rate line and investigations have discovered it is a scam being run from Belize.

Anybody who calls the number and starts to hear a recorded message will be immediately charged £315.

If you are contacted by the company, phone the Royal Mail Fraud line on 020 7239 6655, with more information being available at crimestoppers-uk.org.

I've had two this week. One from SecretShopper® inviting me to join them in California  eeek:, and one from a firm of legal consultants assuring me that a relative of mine has died intestate and there's squillions in a bank account in Zurich with my name on it!  razz:
