Munir Hussain and his brother have been given sentences of two to three years for their attack on a burglar.

The law bangs on about proportionality in these sort of incidences but what it fails to address is that the victim(s) have very little chance of acting with restraint, calmness and proportionality because they've never had to do it before.
I think a far better sentence would have been to let the brothers walk free but with an order to attend martial arts training for a year so they react more effectively next time

Coincidentally this week Dan Fogel chased some would be burglars out of his garden. He picked up a weapon as he ran out of the house... the sledge he used on one of his expeditions. I wonder what would have happened if he'd managed to wrap that around the head of one of the toe rags.
