Take the praise like a proud bear chap. 
You bought the lad up to be the young man that he is, a shining example of a good cub. Polite, hard working, able to show initiative etc.
Your cub of course has played his part in plodding on in the first job, against the odds gaining his driving licence, shining in his second job and now this. He didn't do it entirely on his own he had his home life behind him to back him up.
Good parenting is hard work and is time consuming, I think those of us on here know that, so good job well done. Sounds as if he will go from strength to strength.

Oh, and meanwhile now, I have a MM on my paws, kicking off because of all the praise that was heaped on 'perfect Peter' as she so quaintly put it, last night.
Been getting a right ear bashing from her this morning, lah de dah de dah de diddly dum dum etc etc etc.
Can't friggin' win.
Kids certainly know how to knock you down if you DARE to feel proud and happy for a moment.
Going out before I say summat to her i might regret later.
Had me little quota of pride and happiness for a few hours, now get back into that tub of shit you no mark.
