Don't be sorry mate ~ you rode your luck, took your chances and it has paid off.
I tried to do the same but health, elderly parents, children .... All stood in my way, or I would now be happily running a café in Holland and planning a wealthy retirement somewhere warm. That was the dream for 35 or more years and I only finally gave up on it quite recently.
I should have gone when the going was good and said sod all the responsibilities I thought I had. In the final analysis I doubt that my continued presence has made much difference. Parents and in-laws have aged and mostly died, children grow up and go their own way, even wives come and go. It's only me that lingers on with regrets for missed opportunities, telling myself "Maybe next time round". With my luck I shall probably come back as an ant or something.
