Scott Redding
« on: June 22, 2008, 01:03:07 PM »
For the first time in 22 years, a British rider has won a British GP race.

Scott Redding, 15, from Gloucestershire won the 125s at Donington. Fabulous.

It was only his 8th start in a GP and also his first time racing at Donington.

He is a talent to watch.

The funny thing was on the podium - he is too young to drink, so wasn't allowed champagne to spray around :-)

No - the third placed lad is 15 too, so he wasn't allowed either.

2nd place was a positively ancient 20 year old - he did the spraying on behalf of them all.

So - let's get this right: at 15 he is allowed to hair around a track at nearly 140mph risking life and limb, but he's not allowed a bit of bubbly after!

Yep ~ and he can't ride anything bigger than a push bike on the highway either.

Lost mine aged 14 under Bournemouth Pier but I wasn't a petrol head.

Scott Redding:-

"But to win in front of the British fans is a dream come true. I wasn't allowed any champagne on the podium because I'm too young but luckily Mike (the 20 year old) gave me some of his.

"I should be back at school tomorrow but I am off to Assen for the next race, and hopefully I can get another podium soon."

Asked how he would celebrate becoming the first British rider to win any Grand Prix class in 22 years, he replied "I'll go home andd give my dad and my uncle some money to go and get hammered"

 ;D

The boy will go far!

Fond memories. I had a girlfriend called Sally for a while who taught me a thing or two. Later I found out her nickname was "Manhole"
