All these bore holes must mean there is water down there .... why is it not cleaned and used?
There are some boreholes that produce drinkable water… most are classified as non-potable and the water used to, um water crops, football pitches or the lovely floral displays on the central reservation of all the motorways… oh and keep the goats going too…

Inevitably as more and more water is pumped out of the ground it eventually becomes contaminated with salt water…

rubschin: Greece gets a lot of forest/bush fires every year due, I thought, to drought. Where are they finding all this spare water and what is going to happen in the North of the Island ~ or did they manage to grab the rainy side?

I think the occupied areas prolly get water from Turkey…  rubschin:

I’ve no idea where Greece is finding eight million tonnes of water from tho…  shrugs:

We of course have major fire problems here… Cypriots flicking cigarette ends out of car windows don’t help… When I was out off-roading the other day we stopped next to a dam where giant Russian helicopters (that the Cypriot government rents in the fire season) were collecting water from to dump on a fire somewhere…  noooo:

One would have assumed Sea Water would be good enough to put out fires or does that contaminate the land too much for later use?

They generally use sea water... I guess on this occasion the (almost empty) dam was closer to the fire...  noooo:
