Good programme last night. They're on top form.

Especially enjoyed the lorry driving sections. Bloody idiots! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7704928.stm)

No it's deffo from last night's TOp GEar ~ I watched it, "Bloody Idiots" just about sums it up but I suppose that's "Edgy" programme making. I did like the digs at Wossy and Brand that JC got in.

It is repeated during the week IIRC.
I'll ask the 'TG expert' when he gets home from college.

Fantastic episode, as ever, and all in all a bloody good few hours on the telly. ;)

7 'til 8 GMT (8-9 GROWLER time) BBC2 Wednesday.

WW3 broke out here tonight cus Mini Moose accidentaly...alledgedly....recorded bloody Corry over his recording of last nights episode.  scared:
He went absolutely ballistic as he very proudly collects evrything JC related, even down to designing his own dvd covers for them.

Good job he can re-record it, or the patio would be being dug up with antlers sticking out the top as a memorial.

As he said it I thought somebody is bound to complain. This morning TV news said that 188 people did just that. Now that it's out in the media, shall we have a sweepstake to see how many thousand join the bandwagon (no pun intended). "Truckers Weekly" or whatever the trade mag is called is bound to have a campaign, and I'm sure that given free-rein JC will deal with it in his usual diplomatic way

Clarkson's joke, made before the watershed, has now sparked 517 complaints.

But a BBC spokesman said that by Monday morning - before the incident had been reported on by newspapers and websites - there had been 188 complaints.

Young GROWLER jnr. was literaly bouncing off the walls when he realised it wasn't on, and WW3 part 2 broke out again against Mini Moose over her recording bloody Corry over his original copy on Monday.

I dunno when it's on again now, but it will be...sometime in the not too distant future on BBC3 I believe. rubschin:

Nick's TV in a box ~ he keeps on moaning that he doesn't have a TV so can't watch things that people talk about yet he is the twerp who put it in the fvcking box in the first place, to punish The Boy. The Boy pisses of to his mates houses to watch TV and Nick sits and looks at the empty space where his TV used to be  point:

Cutting off his nose to spite his face I call it.

Of course he will have us believe that everone in the house reads more books, talks to one another more than ever before and all is an Enid Blyton World at Nick Towers but every day, it seems, he is asking what we are talking about when it comes to TV programmes.

Everyone knows I don't watch much TV but I do watch progs I like and when there is nothing on that I want to watch I read a book or listen to the wireless. I guess it helps that I have more than 1 TV so arguments about who watches what are seldom a problem.

TBH I missed the programme ~ doing other things and it clean slipped my mind. I'll catch it on the rerun.
You are right ~ it is a case of "Boys Toys" envy really ~ they tell you very little about cars, or at least very little about cars we could afford.

Of course old Tiff, Quentin and co are still banging on about how TG has lost the plot and doesn't really talk cars, grease, engines etc anymore but then that is why they (TG) attract the huge audience that it does ~ well that and the fact we are all waiting to see JC having his bollox burned off on the tarmac one day.

Top Gear is, at the end of the day, a comedy show and pure entertainment with a little thrill when something goes wrong.

In some ways it belongs to the same genre as Time Team and all that bollox about "And we have only three days to discover the origins of the universe". We only watch to see what can go wrong actually happen. With Time Team nobody is more overjoyed than me when it pisses down throughout the dig and they find nothing.

All rooms full at the moment ~ and not a minutes peace.

Actually we probably are well placed to weather the storm. Local Government is ineffective, Welsh Assembly Government (yes WAG as they like to call themselves) is a long way off and does act as a buffer between us and some of the excesses of Westminster. Snoopers from Revenue, Customs and Social Services (Or Job Centre Plus as they like to be known this week) are pretty distant as all local offices have been shut. This corner of Wales (Top Left Hand) is relatively crime free  and, unless you count the anti motoring taleban, the police are few and far between. Any enquiries about you or your activities will be relayed to you within minutes and you can always confuse the police, social services, job centre staff etc by demanding a translator as you wish to exercise your rights under the Welsh Language Act to have everything explained in both languages.
All in all we get pretty much left alone. whistle:

I've never felt so depressed as when I've been in some of the main stealers around here....much the same as nationwide I guess.

He says that he took the TV away to punish The Boy, months ago, and put it in a box.

He says they enjoy life without it as everyone now talks to one another or reads books.

Some may think it was repossessed, others may think he broke it and made up the story as cover.

I wish the whole thing would just go away.

(I suggest ripe Stilton)

Certainly was Snoopy. I don't know how long it is since you visited your beloved Hampshire, but the Fiesta vs Corvette piece was filmed inside and around Festival Place in Basingstoke. They even threw in a couple of shots of Hotel Chocolat for Wenchy

Well I'm blessed ~ go to Hampshire when I can but Basingstoke is usually on the "give it a miss" list. TBH I doubt that I would know my way round Basingstoke anymore.

So what should I go for next? My car is on the Motabilty scheme and is due for change at the beginning of July. That means I have to start looking at replacements soon so that I have time to try a few, get approval from SWMBO + 3 smaller WMBO's and allow three months for the main squealer to order it so that it is available when the current contract expires.
Last one was a Zafira ~ for the seven seats (there are five of us + occasional visitors to be transported). Made every little use of the tiny 6th and 7 th seats (only used them five times in 3 years) and then the visitor numbers  dropped (FiL died etc) so when I changed the Zafira I went for a Picasso five seater. Good in that all children approved as there is no "hump" in the middle of the rear seat or floor thus everyone gets a full sized seat and proper seat belt (instead of the middle one being only a lap strap) The Picasso (and I got the deluxe version 1.6 petrol) has only done 8500 miles in 30 months. I am getting out more these days (it had only done 1800 miles in the first year) and SWMBO has her own ancient Corsa. The Picasso is a horrid car to drive any distance in, has poor all round visibility and I just don't much like it. ALSO (and perhaps most importantly) it does not fit my self image.
So given that I HAVE to replace it, that it must seat 5 (three adult sized and two growing rapidly), that I cannot afford a Merc or BMW, that the deal is it must be a new and not second hand vehicle and the price range cannot exceed £14K what would the experts recommend I have a look at?

Has "hump" in back and also only basic model fits into the price range meaning no "luxuries" like all round airbags etc. Added to which it looks like a Picasso. Self image again.

Most cars threaten to carry five but on closer inspection the one in the middle at the back is sitting on a hump and their feet are spread either side of a "tunnel" in the floor. The Picasso was the only car I found that didn't have these problems. It also has a flat boot. No lip, which is handy when sliding things in or out (cue for Nick to make a comment). All in all it answers all the requirements except that it is an "Old Man's" motor and visibilty is crap. The pillars either side of the windscreen are f'ing huge and there are blindspots. Also I find the seats uncomfortable for a long drive and that despite all the possible adjustments.

Image is hard to define~ one likes to feel that one looks "cool" in TG terms.

Landrover Defender would suit nicely given what I tend to do in the car and where I live but way out of price range.

That's the point you see ~ I don't want to look "Cool" ~ I don't give a toss what other people think I look like. I want to feel "Cool"

OK who, in their heads, actually thinks they look the way the mirror tells them they look. Very few of us are that honest with ourselves. When I get behind the wheel I want to feel like Joe Cool. When I push the pedal down I want a response. Not just speed but a gut feeling that I am MOTORING.

BM ~ You go Off Roading ~ Do you see yourself as you really are or, whilst driving like that, do you not feel a bit excited by it all, out of your usual comfort zone, a bit James Bondish, in other words COOL?

Isn't there a bit of The Fonz in all of us?

Snoops me owld chump. I don't mean to take the piss really. I think it was just a bit of frustration creeping in due to my usual inability to comprehensively comprehend exactly what you are getting at.

You want to feel cool, not look it? rubschin:
OK. After much thought and consideration I think the coin has dropped.

You need a car that simply makes you feel good, looks good and that you can enjoy driving in comfort, a bit like a couple of the Growler fleet that always puts a grin on my face, yes?
Still don't really know what to suggest without doing some research tbh. P'raps a questionaire should be completed to give us a true picture of your as near as damn it requirements?

You're on motability scheme iirc? What about reverting back to receiving the allowance every month rather than sacrificing it for a new car every 3 years?
That way you could purchase your own car, such as a Jag XJ....cheap enough presently for a reasonably late example with FSH, and also iirc, you still receive free road tax too?
Just a thought. ;)

Growler ~ the thought had crossed my mind ~ summat that, as you say, brings a smile to my face when I drive it and if I took the cash rather than the car then I would be able to shop around the second hand market, not be paying for the depreciation that occurs the minute you put a tax disc on the bloody thing. Yes, if I register it as a disabled persons vehicle then I do get free road tax. Of course with Motability I do also get free tyres, free servicing and free RAC (well not "free" but included in the price) so I would have to factor those expenses into the equation.
Well worth further thought though ~ and as you say I could get a second hand Jag or BMW to suit my taste  rubschin:

Thanks all. We can now move on whilst I ponder the options and vist a few dealers.

Good man. More than happy to help with my favourite subject. happy088

It's not on the telly, it's an annual live show.

Bugger!

I had hopes of some reflected glory there. My boys would have been dead impressed to know that I knew you and you were that close to the Blessed Clarkson (Tho' I think they both prefer Hammy)

I was ded upset about having to have his Lego house demolished btw. sad32:

Legoland in Windsor couldn't afford to have it moved and rebuilt there apparently, so that then begs the question as to why they didn't suggest/allow him to build it there in the first place!
Not exactly rocket science to think of that one was it? ::)

Since it goes past their bedtime SWWLTBO said the boys couldn't watch it .... so where are they now? In their "den" watching it on iplayer happy088

Their den is wonderful ~ it is in Minor's room under the 8' x 4' table that carries his Hornby train layout. It stinks of wet dogs and we don't have a dog but small boys do smell much like wet dogs I suppose. They have equipped it with a trailing lead, an inspection lamp, several large cushions, a large box of tissues  eeek:, a packet of biscuits and bottles of water and 2 laptops + sundry sets headphones, tape/cd players and two way radios. SWWLTBO has tolerated this so far but I have had to tell the older one to flush his used tissues down the loo before his mother sees them  whistle:

SWWLTBO says I am as bad as they are and have yet to grow up.

All men are only Bigger Boys in reality.
Frankly I used to worry about portraying the "right, grown-up" image but now I just don't give a stuff ~ don't like me the way I am? ........... SOD OFF!

Wife looks heavenward at times and the THW thinks I am soooooooooooo stoooopid but the boys think I'm the mutt's nuts. Life is too short to be "responsible" all the time. I make sure none of them come to harm but if letting them watch Clarkson and co and not blowing my stack because the eldest appears to have discovered that his todger is not for stirring tea with makes me a bad person so be it.
I enjoy showing them stunts that I pulled as a kid, teaching them how to set off fireworks and not get hurt is a delight for me. Limited as I am by the constraints of health problems I still try to let them see that life should be enjoyed. THW is so bloody po-faced I could slap her and probably will.

Delightful conversation with Minor last night. He is eleven (not 12 until August next). He told me he had a "Problem that is worrying him"
"Tell yer old man then" I invited.
He took a deep breath and said "I am worried that my voice is going to break"
"It will" I assured him "What's the problem tho?"
"Well" he muttered "Thing is ......... Will it hurt very much?"

Bless his little heart.   sad24:

I gave all the reassurance that the only thing that might be hurt would be his pride for a few weeks if he was one of those who went "squeaky" whilst it happened but I was able to tell him that in my case it happened almost overnight. I went to bed a soprano and woke a baritone.
He seemed relieved.

Having watched it for years, I'm finding it difficult to think of any other series that has entertained me as much each time it was on. Last weeks Bolivia one was one of the best yet for me. The only other series that probably comes close would be Planet Earth/Blue Planet etc
Title: Re: T.G.'s back!

Even I ~ a TV hater most of the time ~ have to admit that it is a cracking piece of escapist entertainment. I used to watch it for the car info (back when Quentin Wilson and co were on) bit they have gone beyond that now. It is pure entertainment. I don't believe half the stunts they pull are for real and I know their lives are seldom in danger, there is always a full crew, director and stunt men in attendance but never the less it is clean honest fun. Good luck to them all.

Whatever the cost of the legal action, Top Gear - of which BC was an intricate part - nets £millions for the Beeb and if that keeps the licence fee down then long may Top Gear continue.

P.S. If they're after a new Stig, I'm not doing anything at the moment... 8)

Ofcom should set a complaint threshold and only investigate if the the number of complaints goes over it. Perhaps a 1000 or maybe a percentage of the average audience figures.

Ofcom = A Quango we could well do without.

They only make a noise once in a while, usually about nothing as in this case, to justify their existence.

Agreed! A percentage of the viewing figures (at least 50%) before wasting our money on it... as Snoopy says, get rid of them anyway...

How about if some of us complained about the comment being removed from the repeat?  rubschin:

One step to far by the sound of it:

Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear host, suspended by BBC after 'fracas' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31824040)

So off to Sky then,,,,,,, rubschin:

ITV more like,Sky can be a bit prim and proper

Sadly we are bereft of details, he's been known to hit someone before (if Piers Morgan qualifies as human)

Definite  Popcorn: time

He must have done something that even the BBC find inexcusable........... rubschin:

I was going to say that on a scale of zero to Savile, thumping some spotty arts-graduate TV producer should be in the lower decile.

I hope you have all signed the petition. . . .

Clarkson has made a career of being bloody-minded and intolerant and it seems now has upset someone in the BBC hierarchy, possibly taking a swing at some low-order hanger-on.
It isn't drugs or sex abuse, more a normal Saturday night for a footballer.
They keep their jobs for any of the above it seems.

Well while I'm not in favour of signing anything that gives anyone, everyone the unconstrained right to start a fracas anytime any place I or even you may be, there is a point that's come out the concerns me

It seems the incident occurred last week but was only reported yesterday.  Why the delay?  Surely not because someone was looking into the possibility of compo?  No surely not, that never happens does it.

...but then come up with your own version of what happened based purely on your own conjecture?  lol: lol: lol:

This 'tweet' from Jeremy Clarkson was from the 25th Feb, he seemed to know something then...

Wanted: new presenter for Top Gear. Applicant should be old, badly dressed and pedantic but capable of getting to work on time.

Meanwhile they can probably tune in at 8 on Sunday and watch an exciting episode of Last of The Summer Wine probably, 'ave an cup o' 'orlicks and fuck off to bed for a wankfest in celebration of the possible demise of Britain's GREATEST and immensely popular son and chums.

Interesting, seems we now know the identity of who it was wot turned him in

Seems Clarkson himself did.   Link (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2992920/I-ll-fired-Clarkson-ranted-Gear-producer-30-minute-f-word-tirade-emerges-turned-hotel-fracas.html)

Ding dong, the witch is dead.

The celebrations have begun, and they will be loud and long. All along the yellow brick road to Hampstead the Sancerre will be flowing tonight.

Top Gear is no more, or at least Top Gear as we’ve known it for many years. The one with the record-breaking audience.

Given his rotten behaviour the BBC had little option but to sack Jeremy Clarkson, but for those popping happy corks it’s a peculiarly modern British victory. Large numbers of people who loathed the programme and never watched it are cheering because those of us who did enjoy it immensely can no longer do so. It is less the loss of Clarkson, which feels inevitable, than the shrill delight with which it has been greeted which grates with fans of the show.

What’s so wrong with us that our misery is cause for celebration?

For it is undoubtedly true that, for those celebrating, Sunday nights are unchanged. In a couple of days they will have moved on to something else and forgotten this. For the rest of us, something we looked forward to is gone. We’ll notice that for some time. They have only gained because we have lost.

But of course that’s the point.

Jeremy Clarkson is a multi-millionaire and a hugely highly-paid newspaper columnist and author (and, probably, TV presenter in the future too). Whilst he’ll be sad about this, his professional life will continue to be one of success. The mob knows this. It’s not really about Clarkson, it’s never really been about Clarkson. It’s about his audience.

What Danny Cohen’s cheerleaders could never forgive was not the content of Top Gear, but its huge success. A horrible weekly reminder that millions and millions of people don’t share their world view; a ratings and sales nightmare which acted as evidence that they might just be in a minority.

It is us they hate.

Us, the ghastly petite bourgeoise with our jeans and our crisps and our terrible sofas. Us, with our dirty fingernails and love of how things work. Us, with our inability not to giggle at Grayson Perry when he’s discussing Russian imperialism dressed as Alice in Wonderland. Us, who think Smeg is a Dave Lister swear word not a kitchen appliance. Us, with our willingness to makes jokes at one another’s expense and laugh at them and then forget them. Us, with our beer and skittles, even where they’re lager and an Xbox.

There are a lot of us. Tens of millions of us, actually. A lot more of us than there are of them. But we don’t run things like the BBC, we just run or work for the businesses which pay the taxes that fund it. We are the do-ers, the ones who get their hands dirty. Van drivers, call centre workers, builders and salespeople. And yes, PR executives and vets and solicitors too. Quietly bound together by an easy going attitude, an ability to laugh rather than take offence and a belligerent refusal to think as we’re told.

No indeed, we don’t make it to the management of the BBC. But we had an hour, on a Sunday night, that was for us. Only an hour, in the thousands broadcast, but an hour. An hour of pointless cocking about which brought a smile before the working week began anew.

And now we don’t. And that makes a lot of people very happy.

Because that’s how snobbery works, and that’s what elites do.

Excellent!  Thumbs:

Hello again briefly.
I am spreading my anger around on as many forums that I have access to, as i feel so strongly and downright bloody vexed on this issue

Actually Steve, yes I do, and came across several yesterday afternoon at the car and van hire depot I was working at.

I had a glum face...yes, more than usual believe it or not...... after hearing the grim news at 14:00, and was asked by one staff member what the matter was?
Told him, and he burst out laughing, told his colleagues around him and they all burst out guffawing in almost uniform wild celebration....bar one.

Jeers and cheers as this forlorn bedraggled owld Bear skulked away to carry on working.

Yup, ther JC haters are absolutely LUVIN' it, in true British style, a pathetic style of extreme bitter dislike of seeing anyone being either successful or of enjoying themselves.
Comments section under every news article this last few days has been totally overflowing with the baying packs of the Last of The Summer Wine Supporters Association, dripping with blood thirsty delight at seeing so many being made miserable, sad little bastards each and every one of them.

Never mind, they can start preparing and  stoking up in readiness for their next HATE campaign for the inevitable return of the Terrible Threesome coming to us all again on another channel in the hopefully not too distant future.

Thanks for reading my rant.
It's good to share, but you can fuck off if ya think yer even gerrin a SNIFF of me last Rolo. Finger:

Bye,

GROWLER

Cant stand the Smug Buffoon, I hope we never see him on the telly again...nothing to do with PC, if he Hit someone then, it was right to suspend him.

Quote
I used to enjoy Top Gear when it was a show about normal cars and motoring. When it became a platform for Clarkson to behave like a stupid child and a self opinionated boor, and to push the boundaries ever further, I stopped watching.

Quote
Couldn't care less about this arrogant ignorant person who thinks he's a celebrity, not in my book. He always comes across as a big headed know it all, and his co-presenters lick his boots. If you see the TV footage of his so called apology for using the 'n' word, Clarkson states that he tried very hard not to use it, what ? really ?

Are the manufacturers going to stump up new cars to be tested to death for same audience?  noooo:

It was always going to be a mistake to try and do the same thing with a different cast... which is exactly what they did... facepalm:

well I did have a related cunning plan

Instead of all this leadership election and leadership challenge malarkey why not use the HIGNFY system for the next prime minister.  Every week there is a different one and if they do well they get invited back for another week.  And the next week they can host Top Gear.

It could work.
