Amazing to think that at the start of the war that was how they planned to detect enemy bombers.... rubschin:

What news from THW and how is she getting on ?
Has she actually attended a lecture yet ? lol:
-
Yes ~ she is apparently working like fvck! rubschin:
Lectures and lab work for 25 hours a week ..... which is some 10 to 15 hours more than those reading English, History etc. I gather the lab work accounts for quite a bit of the extra hours.
She is loving it.... had a rapturous email from her a couple of days ago. On Wednesday, cos the weather was nice, she and another girl from her "block" decided to hop a bus down to the River and were sat on the bank writing an essay between them. She says life doesn't get much better than a friend, a glass of beer and doing your assignments whilst sat on the grass next to the Thames.
She reports that she has been up to Town three times in the fortnight she has been there. Once for a show, once for the hell of it and once to get her phone fixed in the Apple Store, which she and a couple of others turned into a girly tour of the Nat History Museum and the Nat Gallery etc.
Yesterday afternoon a bunch of them were planning on going to a "Victorian Steam Fair" in Englefield Green which has a Firework display in the evening and I suspect a case of "Oh my poor head" this morning.
She is coming home in about four weeks time for a weekend break and to collect various sports equipment she failed to take.
Contact is sporadic .... two long emails to her mother, a letter to her brothers and a text to me asking for an ethernet cable to be sent urgently.
She seems to be loving every minute of it.
Oh and she went "for a giggle" to the Lacrosse trials (she has never played the game in her life) and is now in the "Second" team ..... Nick (who has met her) and I feel she may have been picked for "Intimidatory Value" as the thought of the THW thundering toward you, waving a hoooge shrimp net in anger, is truly frightening. scared2:

I feel I may have to admit that I am proud of her.
Only one in her school cohort to have landed a place in a "Russell Group" uni...... one managed to get into Durham on second try and the others are spread around a number of ex-polytechnics or are playing "catch-up" in local colleges of FE in the hopes of getting enough grades to go to uni next year.

I spose she takes after her mother

Agreed, such things make one feel that the parenting wasn't done that badly after all. cloud9:

The THW, using her ipod, reports that she is on the M5 in a minibus full of geology students heading for Devon on a weekend long field trip. I foresee much walking, clambering over rocks and falling down.
Oh and there will be no evening long piss-ups as they are doing field work by day and lectures in the evenings.
She is threatening to come home for a weekend .... to collect essential items forgotten when she packed.
-
PS ~ She has sent a photo of her on the minibus .... she has lost weight and changed her hairstyle eeek:
She looks frighteningly grown-up!!
-
rubschin: Essential items forgotten eh? That'll be more money and food then. ::)

Probably her contraceptive pills rubschin:
