Title: Amazon Link
Post by: Barman on September 09, 2011, 09:50:21 AM
I've added an Amazon Link below the Donate button.  whistle:

If you click it, you'll be taken to the Amazon website and anything you buy there will result in a donation to the Virtual Pub.

So, it won't cost you anything at all yet those nice people at Amazon will make a donation which will help keep the pub running...  cloud9:

The problem is that clicks on the Donate button are few and far between yet invoices for hosting and running the site appear all to frequently. Given that we have no other advertising or promotion on the site I don't think it is unreasonable that we all share the cost of running it. This would appear to be a good way of spreading the cost.  ;)

For your info, here is a summary of the recent invoices that I've paid: -

PackageDate£
Easyspace Standard Backup Yearly28/09/11£10.33
Easyspace MySQL Database - Yearly21/09/11£39.36
Easyspace Standard Backup Yearly28/09/11£10.33

I very much doubt it. There would be no reason for Amazon to release that detail and they would prolly be in trouble with the Data Protection people if they did.
My understanding is that they simply give the item, price and commission payable.
The way it is set up only BM can see anything..... I cannot.

And no, I am not in any of the piccies/vids.

Might be after next Wednesday - Summer Ball - they seem to want me to be Mr Spock (TMR, stop tittering) - summer project theme is space

I now seem to be maintaining the website - basically I want to rip it apart and start again, but that's difficult when I only work 8 hours a week for them.

True enough me old bear but we were also thinking of new members like .... the old button didn't really have the eye appeal to attract people into using it and having to explain it over and over again would have been tedious.
Using the internationally known logo might just attract a few more members to use it.
People will recognise it as a link as it is used everywhere whereas the old one was not instantly recognisable as such.
Anyway that was the thinking.

Multi regional applies to those DVDs etc that can be played on machines made for both the UK/European market and the US ones which use a different system.

Wiki says:
Quote
DVD region codes are a digital-rights management technique designed to allow film distributors to control aspects of a release, including content, release date, and price, according to the region. DVD video discs may be encoded with a region code restricting the area of the world in which they can be played.

The American DVD Copy Control Association in California requires that DVD-player manufacturers incorporate the regional-playback control (RPC) system – according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, an Australian government agency.

There are six different official regions and two informal variations. DVDs may use one code, a combination of codes (Multi-Region), most codes (Region 0) or every code/no codes (Region All). The commercial DVD player specification requires that a player to be sold in a given place not play discs encoded for a different region; however, region-free DVD players are also commercially available. In addition, many DVD players can be modified to be region-free, allowing playback of all discs.

Heads up people ......Amazon are doing Black Fridays promo at the moment .

Discounting some products at often quite substantial rates but all very time limited ( within an hour) - you can preview a bit of what's coming up though and it will tell you what in the next few hours will become available.  If you are interested in a product you will just have to time yourself for it

These seemingly nice peoples from the Avinsome have writ to me exclaiming their puzzlement and apologies for the disappearing CD's.
They are making enquiries to the courier company that claim to have delivered and received a signature for said parcel, and have assured me that they'll be back in touch within the next 4 days.
If they can't be traced for whatever reason, they will be taking full responsibilty and arrange for free replacements asap.

Can't actually get much fairer than that imo.
