I've been invited out to dinner on Friday, the 9th. Apparently the birthday of one of the other invitees falls on the Sunday, the 11th. I am told this is not a good day to celebrate the birthday  ::)

Why not? What about all the folk born on September 1st, the day WWII broke out, eh?   noooo:

It's all just starting Miss D. A few people have died and there is a lot off illnesses attributed to it.  The dust was highly toxic.  People want compensation.

Give it time Miss D. I went on an asbestos awareness course recently and part of the day went through the history of asbestos. Over 400 tons of the stuff was used in the building of the twin towers, so in around 25 - 30 years time there are going to be many many people suffering from the effects of that day

If the asbestos was in them as a fire retardant it seems not to have werked (like)

Different sort of asbestos. Late FiL was an expert on the stuff  and all other forms of insulation ... often called as an "Expert Witness" in court cases. It's all to do with particle size, or so he explained to me once, and normal asbestos used in building over the past 40 years is not the dangerous stuff. Do not believe what you read in the press or the bollix talked by "specialist asbestos removal contractors" was his advice.
With the twin towers the problem seems to be not asbestos but all the mercury and other "heavy" metals in the zillions of calculators, computers and mobile phones that got burnt up releasing the metals into the dust cloud.

However be prepared for something to kick off in London today. I hope it doesn't but I would anticipate massive police presence and diversions everywhere.

Quote
More than 1,000 people are expected at the funeral of police shooting victim Mark Duggan in London later.

A private cortege is due to make its way through the Broadwater Farm estate in Tottenham, near to where Mr Duggan was shot last month.
