Title: Hover or Strimmer?
Post by: GROWLER on July 28, 2007, 07:05:05 PM
Been at 'THe Swamp' today, and had the inagural (sp) firing up of my new Honda powered genny. It's bootiful. cloud9:

As the grass is now about 4' tall...I kid you not...I decided to take the mower down to do a bit o' cutting near the reception area.
Waste of time. It needs something better.
Which is it to be then?
GROWLER jnr who is a teenager and therefore knows EVERYTHING, reckons ot's GOT to be the Hover. I reckon that is crap. It's GOT to be the strimmer.

Yes?  rubschin:

A goat?

Funny you should say that. A Goat, sheep and donkeys' were also mentioned.

The landowner had 30+ sheep in the swamp earlier this year, down from the Yorkshire Dales on their winter holiday apparently.
I couldn't believe how quickly they cleared 13 acres of grass.  eeek:

I rescued one that got tangled in the brambles.
Just thought I'd share that with you. cloud9:

Several, to try to keep on top of it. Rampant growth you know. Must be the pig shit he's sprayed on the swamp in the past. The car wreaks of it. Most pleasant. cloud9:
So, a strimmer it is then. ;)

I know about grass!

First a POWERFUL metal bladed petrol strimmer.  (With a nylon option)

Then a good raking - muscle or power according to means and mow properly.

If you have more less than half an acre of grass - a self-propelled petrol rotary mower, more and you'll need a good solid sit-on mower with a 1500cm cut path.

Make it a diesel one if you can stretch to it, and if you have lots of obstacles - trees paths etc., make it a rear eject and when you have the grass under control you can collect it straight into a trailer.

You may not think it is worth all that to start with, but it is what you will end up with!  So do it first and save some of your dosh.

Better yet advertise it in your local newsagents as "Free Hay" and the Horse Owners will be rushing to cut it for you. If you have enough they'll even pay for it ~ and I'm not joking. Cousin of mine gets his paddock cut free by local Pony Club people three times a year and has enough left over for his lady's hoss.

Now he tells me, AFTER I go out and buy a 'ova mowa. ::)
What a total and utter bastard of a job that turned out to be. evil:
Already destroyed the first set of plastic blades.
It should have been 'strimmed' first. I appreciate that NOW.

I shall post some delightful piccies of my 'Swamp theme garden' upon completion, complete with picnic table, potted plants and a fine array of scrap tyres.
