Boys toys if we did the 'Nick' thing we would be here forever and become totally mad..... Oh I forgot just for and instant doh:
I went to the other room and found out what you were on about. I remember most of the things as I have an older brother. He had Meccano... cloud9: As well as another construction set which came with Bakelite (I assume) panels and rods some of which were transparent. Can't recall what it was called but it prolly came from Germany, he was born there but it was brilliant.

"Bayko building set" ~ I had one.
Bakelite base plates, metal rods that fitted into holes in the base plates and bakelite sections with grooves in the sides to slot between the upright rods.

We had Lego... cloud9:

Every Sunday my Grandfather used to come to us from his "Retirement Home for Old Soldiers" and after lunch he would issue me with a handful of pennies (The old sort) and we would play gin rummy. I never ever won 'cos the old bugger cheated! I swear he recycled the same pennies 'til the day he died.
Saturdays, in the summer, he used to take me to watch Hampshire County Cricket play at the "County Ground" in Southampton. It was in the same road as his Retirement Home and residents got in for now't.
I still play Gin Rummy and Cribbage .... and can still usually win money at it! A good education I call that!

Piece of cardboard attached with clothes peg to bike frame, to hit wheel-spokes and make "stupid" noise?
-
Yep! With two pieces cut from a cornflake packet ....... But at 8 years old we thought it sounded like a motor bike lol:

Spokey-dokeys ;D
Seems we all had similar toys. I had meccano and lego. Grandad taught us poker, gin rummy and pontoon, and an old couple across the road taught us Newmarket, Canasta and chess. These were ideal past-times in Manchester... oh, and was good at jumping in puddles ;D
