An inch high cactus in a local market (Hampshire) as SWWLTBO collects cacti.
Over the years it has grown and been re-potted a number of times. Its shape is odd and it is a damned prickly bugger. Overnight it has flowered for the first time.

That is a lot of arseing about to wait 21 years for a flower, interflora would be much easier.

Philistine! evil:
I'm sure Miss C will appreciate the joy that this bloom has given to SWWLTBO

I have to admire your (collective) patience. Only last evening I was muttering to Mr C that we should start up a national collection of something, none flowering cacti never occurred to me. ;)
Seriously, long wait but worth it. I still don't know what to start a collection of. I suggested 'toy boys' but this not only proved that he was listening but was frowned upon. noooo:

TBH Miss C we have bought many cacti over the years, some have thrived and some not.
Some, which we bought in bloom have died within weeks. This is the first that has bloomed under our (her) care so we are both chuffed but no doubt it will now die. I seem to recall reading somewhere that many varieties of cacti bloom only once in their life span and it is their last act.
We have one of these

A "Christmas cactus" which was taken as a cutting from one my mother had for years. It flowers twice a year. Always in time for Christmas and again at Easter. These apparently last forever and are often passed down through families as ours has been.

Umm I have had a few of those and I am still not sure if I love them or hate them. On the whole cacti have never done it for me had a few when I was a child and they just sat there, as plants are wont to do I suppose, didn't grow and made me come out in a rash if I accidentally touched them. As for the ones that the garden centres have with artificial dried flowers on them don't get me started. evil:
I do hope that your's doesn't die they can grow to huge dimensions it might one day take over Snoops world.
