SO my car needs taxing and I can't do it onlne as the reg and the insurance addresses don't match any more.
SO I call the DVLA.
They advise me to go to their local office, so off I go noooo:
I explain the problem,. They give me the form to change the reg address and I also change my licence address at the same time.
Then I say, "Now can you sell me a tax disc?"
No eeek:
I say that I can do this on my home laptop with the renewal notice or my logbook (neither of which I have) and their system verifies my insurance and MOT, like.
"Our system is too old and we can't do that" Banghead
SO I can renew the tax on line from my laptop, but the DVLA CANNOT do it using their compooters. HOw does that werk??

I have just taxed the Fiat on-line. The Registered Keeper is my brother and his address is shown on the "Log Book" The insurance is in my name and address as is the debit card I used. No problems.
At no point did they ask about addresses.

It's all done via Swansea. The Local Office pooter's link directly to DVLA Swansea.
It must be you .... unless you were trying to change the addresses on line which the site says you cannot do.
Although Lil Bruvver is still the Registered Keeper so long as the vehicle is insured and MOT'd the DVLA don't give a sh*t who pays for the tax, insurance and MOT .... after all think Company Cars or for that matter Motability where the insurance address etc is always the Head Office ... same as leased vehicles.
The only reason that Lil Bruv remains the Registered Keeper is to avoid having a "Change of Owner" shown because that tends to reduce the value of the vehicle when/if I want to sell it. As it stands it has had two owners.....why add to that for no need?
Strange that people buying cars get so het up about the numbers of "owners" as the Registration Document clearly states that the Registered Keeper is not necessarily the owner of the vehicle.

They wanted my paper log book which is in CHeshire. They can't access logbook info on their pooters for some reason. And my MOT expires today, new one on Toosday.

Looks like you may have to
open re-open negotiations with Mrs Nick to retrieve your important documents, possessions and books etc.
If you don't have room for everything think of renting secure storage ~ I didn't and took my ex's word that she would store my stuff until I had room to take it .... what she didn't put on the bonfire she sold within 2 months of my departure.
My serious advice is "Don't let these things drift on or you will have nothing"
Good luck!

^^^^^ Wot he said otherwise you will end up with very little. Secure storage have some excellent deals going usually for the first three months and they have small almost locker size storage areas. Sorry chap but you need to sort it. happy100

AHem. I bought the diesel to last. 70000 miles ain't old for a diesel. Serviced on the dot angel1. MId service oil changes angel1
It looks knackered with all its dents but it goes like shit off a shovel.
I was in Tesco earlier.
The AA were there looking dubious around a fooked Pajero point: point:

I suggest you invest in a postal redirection from Nick Towers #1 to Nick Towers #???.....a postal redirection would have bought the Reminder Notice to your new abode and the new tax disc would similarly be redirected to your new address.
To tax a car on-line you need a valid MOT ~ valid on the date from which you want the new tax disc to apply (even if it runs out the following day) and either the reminder notice number OR the Registration Document Number .... you do not need both!
It is NOT an offence not to have a valid tax disc displayed provided you are driving to or from a MOT appointment and can prove it
Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
