Instead of producing the ipod V2 , the next in a long line of new phones with more functionality that you never use, a new TV with even yet clearer pictures that enables you to squeeze the blackheads of stars etc what practical things would you like to see being created?
I for one detest ironing - detest , hate, abhore. I would like a proper ironing machine - that works a bit like a shredder - feed the clothes in and out they come perfectly ironed. No effort , no heat and no back breaking . Simples
I'd also like a computer that could actually fix itself and work out it's own compatibility issues noooo:
-
The elder of my two daughters has not ironed anything since she married her first husband in 1990. She pays someone to do it for her. Her reasoning ~ "Life is too short to iron as well as hold down a job, run a family, look after husbands (2 so far), bring up child and have a life. Meanwhile there is always someone who likes ironing and needs the money. I can afford it ..... so why not?"
Think back ~ your granny (or great granny for the younger ones among us) prolly had a woman who took away the washing and returned it a week later, washed and ironed when she took away the next load. Everyone did it. That was how the world worked up 'til the fifties when washing machines became the vogue. Even then my mother had the sheets and such large items collected by a laundry van once a week.
Bring back the local laundries I say!
-
We couldn't afford the laundry... noooo:
I agree about the ironing tho - not necessarily a machine but non-iron clothes, sheets, etc. Surely the technology is available with advanced polymers and stuff to produce fabrics that just dry flat? Shrugs:
-
But the point about technology and stuff is that it creates things to make life easier , to produce a better quality ( I know Growler would argue with his dying breath lol: ) and to be more cost effective in the long run .
I recognise this does not keep people in employment though.
However ironing is my bug bear. If I could afford for someone else to do it I might consider it but I would see this as an extravagant waste of money . It all depends on the individual though and your own sense of priorities.
Anyway the older you get and the more wrinkly you become there is less of a need to have smooth clothes like sad24:

I would go for the following...
1. A dishwasher/shopping unloaded and putter away thingy.
2. An ironing thingy.
3. A handbag with an interior light.
I am sure there are more.

Elder daughter is on £35k pa, her husband earns £30k and the grandchild's father pays £200 a month in maintenance ... trust me ~ she can afford it. Costs her £15 a week (which, as she points out, is roughly the same as her Family Allowance). Lady that does the ironing for her has several kids and prefers to be at home with them rather than pay someone to look after them whilst she go out to work ..... £15 cash from 20+ customers is a nice little earner that she, presumably, fails to declare to the Revenue.
As for fabric technology ~ have you never heard of Bri-nylon? Shirts that never needed ironing ~ my ex bought me some when they were all the rage. Terrible things noooo:

Of course... my point is that you would have thought by now that they could create non-iron clothes, sheets, etc. which looked and felt like normal fabrics...

and that don't have warnings about going too close to naked flames lol:

Once again, Apple have put in a lot of effort and come out with something even thinner and lighter than before.

Meanwhile back on topic ... I would like a ray gun with which I could destroy all ugly people. They don't need to be physically ugly ... just those I personally find repellent.

A cousin of Saddlers ex-wife was a stay at home mother of 2 young boys, to earn som pin money (husband had a very good job) she started ironing for other people. It went so well she now emplys 5 women to do the ironing, she just collects & delivers.
