Post by: Grumpmeister on July 18, 2007, 10:51:18 AM
Pay ?95 get a parcel filled with ?44,000. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Police are trying to trace the owner of 65,400 euros (?44,000) mistakenly sent to a teenager who bought a Playstation Two for ?95 on eBay.
The cash arrived in a box at the house in Aylsham, Norfolk, on 20 March this year instead of the games console.

The boy's parents contacted police and detectives swiftly arrived at the house and counted the money.

The police are holding the money Under the Proceeds of Crime Act while the matter is investigated.

Magistrates have given Norfolk Police until September to hold on to the money before the case comes up in court again.

If the money remains unclaimed the family could potentially apply for it to be returned to them under the Police Property Act.

A police spokesman said: "We have until 22 September before we have to go back to court to apply for a further order if necessary."

If this is from the proceeds of crime then someone is going to get one hell of a kicking when the dealers decide the berk is taking the mickey trying to pay for coke/guns/whatever with a second hand PS2   happy001

They are at it again!   Where did the 'Proceeds of Crime' come from?  I always believed there had to be knowledge of a crime before invoking that legislation!  confused:   They seem to be assuming that handing in the money is a crime - well, I think it is anyway.  8)

This is why I am set against indefinite detention for terrorists - everybody will be a potential terrorist for the first five years... then they'll admit they just could not find any evidence and turn you loose, even pensioners at party conferences will be terrorists...  evil:

as far as I remember the police are allowed to take any amount over ?1000 is there is no clear proof as to where the money has come from. The onus is then on the owner to prove that the money.

On the bright side the family will be able to claim the money back in 28 days...  whistle:

What sort of idiot called the police?
Such a delivery to Snoopy Towers would be welcomed and any subsequent enquiries would be met with "What Parcel? I've already contacted ebay about claiming my money back because that b@st@rd I ordered from never sent me the goods"  whistle:

Proceeds of Crime indeed ~ there is no such thing as contaminated money ~ so long as you don't try banking it all at once. Straight under the floorboard I can tell you.

No I am not Kim ..... just a realist 8)
