Title: Dongle woes
Post by: Nick on October 18, 2010, 06:07:31 PM
Ever since I moved here my intermong connection (T Mobile) has kept dropping. Spent half an hour on the phone to the tech support helpline (who were helpful, if Welsh) and in the end they said to go to the local shop.

Smart guy there told me that although the signal strength where I am is good I happen to be in a shadow or summat. He suggested I would be OK with Vodafone (which I now am on a trial basis) but I have six months left on my T mobile contract  evil:  Battle will be done tomorrow  eveilgrin:, since I don't think I should pay them if I have no connection.

Any views? (Tel?)

The flat is cabled for Virgin Broadband, but I am not paying for that as well as a mobile dongle for when I travel. Called T Mobile who want to charge me £66 for cancelling  evil:

So much easier to tell my bank to cancel the Standing Order   whistle:

I had a contract. I paid £15 a month, they supplied broadband coverage. Except they aren't. Bish bosh.

Quick, general answer.

Mobile b/band is crap, speeds never anywhere what's advertised and coverage is too patchy.

It's cheaper and better to use wi-fi (built in or a stick) and find a free spot - loadsa hotels, coffee places and pubs do it.
Our local does.
When you get a connection, it's better and faster cos you are connecting to someone else's wired broadband.

Mobile companies are very naughty withe their contracts and will cancel your SIM if you don't use it enough and you lose any credit on it - cannot be re-activated.

I spoke to them yesterday coincidentally to retrieve a PAC number. I had to ask the chap 3 times to stop reading from his sales script and just give me the number...  noooo:

It ain't worth their while taking it to court to enforce payment of the balance of the contract BUT you could find they bar you from their networks. Is your telephone with them?
