One of the trapped miners in Chile...
The philanderer
When he steps blinking into the sunlight, Yonni Barrios will have some serious explaining to do: waiting anxiously at the surface are both his wife, Marta, and his mistress, Susana. This unfortunate scenario emerged when the 50-year-old's wife arrived at the San José mine clutching a photograph of him, only to discover that another woman was already there, doing the same.
It is not entirely clear whether Mr Barrios has been informed about this state of affairs, but the two women in his life recently added to the soap-opera nature of proceedings at the surface by coming to blows in the camp canteen. The whole business has filled plenty of tabloid column inches. One headline declared: "Trapped miner has pit on the side".

I had a bit of time to kill this morning so went into the Oakley shop to sneak a peek at those sunglasses that had been sent to the mine from California. £220 a pop UK retail price eeek:
Let's say they're £20 ex factory x 33 plus a few spares and then FedEx'ing them down to Chile; probably still inside a grand. A grand for world wide product placement for 24 hours with viewing figures of gazillions!! Smart move Mr Oakley!

21 Dead, 16 Missing in China Coal Mine Blast
Chinese officials say an explosion in a coal mine has killed 21 workers and trapped 16 underground.
The state work safety agency said the mine in the central province of Henan was hit by an explosion . The mine is owned by the Pingyu Coal & Electric Company based in Yuzhou City.
Authorities said rescue workers were trying to reach the trapped miners, but it was not known whether they are alive. State-run television reported the rescue workers were hampered by excessive gas levels in the mine and chunks of coal that had fallen into the mine shaft because of the blast.

That was my first thought too lol:

It is a tragedy though, all the same, and you have to have some sympathy for the bereaved...
-
But it's all right because the Chinese don't believe in God but the Chileans do (to paraphrase the BBC reporting this morning)

Rock from the San Jose mine will today take pride of place in Downing Street.
Chilean President Sebastian Pinera will give the sample to David Cameron to symbolise what he called the "commitment, courage, faith, hope and unity" behind the dramatic rescue.
A lump of rock in 10 Downing Street ..... rubschin: ...who knew eeek:
Could be classed as a dangerous weapon - something sharp in politics rubschin:

Chileans have given a lump to Obama too ~ apparently.
I have some core samples from the very middle of the Channel Tunnel. Elder daughter got them when she was PA to the team that made the final breakthrough.
Predictably they are chalk.

May be it was a coincidence but I did hear a report about a 'mutiny' with some of the miners saying they would make their own way out. Coincidence? rubschin:

Gordo would have thrown it at someone, prolly noooo:
It was a gold and copper mine, he would have had it checked out and if it was gold sold it for a couple of pence to reduce the debts like. evil:
